I always felt sympathy for Syd. Now his earthly troubles are over.
The Pulse DVD comes out today-of all days.
I think I'll go crank up Interstellar Overdrive.

I saw this on the news this morning and immediately went to AK, knowing there'd be an active tribute thread.

It's too bad that artistic brilliance often has such a price. I've always meant to add "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" to my collection. Now I expect to pick it up today, play it tonight, and make a personal toast to Syd. I hope he's watching.

Ahh man! On the one hand I'm really sorry to hear that, on the other I'm kind of relieved for him. Here's hoping he's found the peace he never could while living.

Syd has been out of the music biz for decades but he still had a following and many fans feel Floyd died when Syd left the band. Piper is a great album indeed. I've got some solo Barrett stuff that I think I will play later.

Requiescat In Pace

Pink Floyd loomed large in my High School days, and had a big impact on my musical tastes.. well, forever. Here's a wish for Syd to be at peace.

Wow,

The greatest tragedy of course is the unfulfilled promise of his talent, indicated by his brief but brilliant output. As fans we lost him decades ago. We knew this day would eventually come, since by all accounts he had health problems for many years. Thanks for the music Syd.

I remember reading a long time ago that most great artists treaded the border between insanity and normalcy closer than the rest of us. I guess the same was true for Syd.

May your journey be a peaceful one and productive one. What a great band he can form now. Imagine Hendrix and Syd collborating on a new album :)

Very sad to hear. I still recall an interviewer describing trying to speak to him. When the interviewer found his house, he answered the question: "Is Syd here?" with: "no, he dosent live here anymore". One very tortured soul.
It was nice to hear that his bandmates took care of him.

Fame isn't all it's cracked up to be (no pun intended). He was happy in his garden, went by his real name, and was friendly to his neighbors.

Peace indeed, Roger.
