FM3 Alignment Tool

Steve-H

Burnin down the house
All,
Well I know that this is somewhere in the archives; but the search button isn't bringing it up...So I will ask again.
Anyone have a source for plastic tuner alignment tools ? I just wrapped up replacing all kinda stuff in my FM3, and it needs to be aligned BAD.

Thanks !
Steve

I do not have all the 'proper' tools, but I do have a scope...Guess it can't be too hard to scrounge up frequency generator though.
Regardless, it is my understanding that the FM3 can be done sans scope. There are instructions that were included with the original kits to carry out the alignment.
I should do it this way, then see how close it comes to doing it 'properly'. Could be interesting !

After careful consideration and searching

I got from www.action-electronics.com

http://www.action-electronics.com/alignmenttools.htm

these:

GC-9091 $1.50 1 Alignment Tool
GC-9338 $1.33 1 Burnishing Tool
GC-AS-5007 $10.15 1 Alignment Tool Kit

to replace tools that I either lost or discarded long ago when I swore that enough was enough...
little did I know..........

edit: the undercut shaft alignment tool is critical to reach the bottom core of a two core coil.

Next time read before engaging keyboard...
Personally I have at least 15-20 various alignment tools for AM/FM and video IF's,VHF,UHF,HF ie. avionic comm alignment (military issue) Used to function check, repair, align, calibrate, from audio up to 26gig..

Gents,
I was able to get some tuning sticks yesterday (thanks Art !), and quickly got through the process.
I had to go through and do the solder/unsolder jumper wires to accomplish the alignment, as I don't have an analogue display volt meter (as required to zero, rezero). I tried to do it via +/- numbers on a DVM and didn't have much success.
One thing I discovered....The screw was missing from the adjustable cap that is used to align the tuner dial to the high frequencies. So I wrapped a coil of wire around a threaded screw that was too small in diameter - and then filled this coil of wire with solder. Thankfully this worked well ! I was able to align the unit no problem.
The unit really is a completely different beast. The stereo separation is excellent, and I can almost pick anywhere on the dial and tune in clearly.

Thanks for the help,
Steve

Dynaco FM-3 is user-alignable as-is; one if its charms :-)
T-1 was preset by the factory. If it has not drifted very far, the self-alignment goes as described in the manual. To align T-1 you need an FM signal generator.
