Focal aria vs Chorus discovery thread

So .. I am looking at Focal towers. The Chorus line is being discounted in the US. The new Aria line has new flax drivers.

Anyone hear familiar? I have one dealer with the new Flax Aria and they sounded very nice. Twice the price and then some of the Chorus though.

Having no side to side comparison possibility I am hoping someone here can chime in.

For instance the chorus 926 vs aria 926. More than just different cones?

There is no Chrous 926V. The Aria 926 is supposed to be a model up from the previous Chorus 826V that has been discontinued. Besides the different drivers, there are cosmetic differences and there may have been tweaks in the crossovers due to the new drivers.

The Chorus 826V used to have an MSRP of $2700, but can be found at Music Direct for $1619. I've seen the Aria 926 on ebay for about $3000. One always pays a premium for the latest and greatest.

I bought a pair of Chorus 826Vs from MD at their discounted price and am in love with them. In my opinion, they excel at acoustical music such as jazz and classical. For rock, pop and electronic music I use them with a sub.

I haven't heard the Aria 926 as the only dealer in this cow pasture of a town dropped their line.

Yes the chorus is the 826 sorry.

I have had my eye on music direct. The price difference old to new line is hefty.

There is also a used set of the "red" chorus around here with the W cones.

Yes, the price difference between the two is hefty and well above my comfort zone, but to others 3 large is chump change for a pair of speakers. Maybe when the Aria line goes on clearance I'll look into getting a set. :D

The "W" series has sandwich cone drivers, which are supposed to be a good bit better than the standard poly-glass drivers in the Chorus 800V, Chorus 700V and new 700 lines. I don't know what speakers the W drivers go into unless it's the Electra series and that's a significantly higher priced lineup.

I have seen some used Electras hovering around the 3 & 4 grand mark for the S series and the BE series respectively.

I guess the resale of Focals would be terrible considering there's only 2 of us at all interested.

Most of the people on AK that are interested in Focals hang out in the Modern sub-forum. There are actually quite a few Focal owners on AK.

I have a set of the 836w series Focals I got on closeout and I couldn't be happier. I felt it was a noticeable difference between the V series and the W series. If you don't mind the red color give them a listen and you may be surprised at how good they sound.
