For anyone interested in the Audio Research brand...

My first serious hi-fi purchase was an Audio Research VT-60 amp and LS7 pre back in the late 90's. Great sounding quality entry level gear that I still enjoy to this day! I'm not using the VT-60 at this time, but I'm running the LS7 with my MAC amp. Speaking of Wilson Audio, the factory is about five miles from where I live. I actually ran into Dave Wilson once. He was getting out of his Ferrari in downtown Provo to get a haircut. Talked to him briefly. Seemed to be a nice guy!

Thanks for posting the link. Collectively, I've owned multiple audio research amps and preamps constantly for 10 decades worth of use. This tour of the facility shows why their equipment is capable of that kind of reliability and long term customer satisfaction.

ARC was on my short list of high-end components I wanted to pursue. I ended up going the Conrad-Johnson route, but ARC is definitely one of the great, long-running manufacturers and I wouldn't complain if I ended up owning some in the future. :D If anyone wonders how high-end electronics can get to be so expensive, just consider the labor involved in building an amp--this video is a testament to that.

And yes, sometimes the view is shaky because it's Mikey using his camera phone.

IIRC he uses a GoPro that he wears on a headband.

Plus, I've got new respect for Mikey. From his writings, he always seemed like a dick, but here he comes off as a regular guy.

I chatted with him very briefly at AXPONA and agree--he's very personable. His "comedy" bits probably come from his brief career early in life as a comedian. He had one LP, I Can Take A Joke, but I've never seen one in person.

C-J is another great, long-running manufacturer. I heard the incredible ART line stage at Sea Cliff many times. I also use VTL gear which I would put in the same category as well.

My comment was based on the reflection found in the first twenty seconds of the first video but when I revisited it, I find that he is actually using a handheld camcorder.

HELP!!! I bought a AR ref 3, it´s been working like a dream for 3 months until the other day, the volume goes down on one channel and then it keeps going up on the other channel until i have to switch it off.... Has anyone experienced anything like this with any kind of tube gear?

The very first thing to test with tube gear is, well the tubes! How many hours are on them? If the problem exists on one channel only, swap the tubes and see if the issue moves or stays put.

When you switch it back on, does it start off OK again?

I would contact the factory for advice. Click here for the form.

FYI - the Audio Research / Vandersteen room at RMAF 2016 last weekend sounded fantastic! One of the best at the show IMO.
