A Question For The Professors of Potentiometers and Swamis of Switches
I have now read a least six or seven articles (including here on AK), and watched an equal number of videos, on the cleaning of old pots and switches. Although views differ, the general consensus is the following (leaving out non-relevant issues):
Deoxit D5 is mostly cleaner (forget the propellant and carrier solution), small amount of lubricant. Faderlube is mostly lubricant, small amount of cleaner.
Use Deoxit D5 first. After drying, apply a spay of Faderlube. Done.
Yes, DeOxit and Faderlube are excellent products, but cost a fortune.
CRC QD Electronic Cleaner is MUCH, MUCH less expensive for MUCH more cleaner. Nevertheless, there is a lot of caution NOT to use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner. While it is a good cleaner and will usually wash away the gunk, it contains no lubricant at all, leaving pots and switches subject to much future wear.
My thought and question: Why not dispense with DeOxit D5. Use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner to clean, then finish off with Faderlube?
I can’t be the only one on this. Thoughts?
