For the Sansui Nut that has everything...

Nice. Sansui did a number of these promo LP's back in the day, most I've seen were 4 channel to demo the QS system. First I've seen this particular one. i see it has the short-lived oddball logo on it, as well as the clsssic logo on the rear of the jacket in an somewhat unusual form.

This likely puts it's date of manufacture in 1969 which was when Sansui briefly used this new logo with the sans-serif mixed case lettering, before returning to the classic script logotype again by sometime in 1970. I wish I knew what prompted the change, and the quick reversal of course as well, but we'll probably never have an answer.

Please do a follow up post on the quality of tbe music on this album if you get a chance. I imagine the selections are a bit corny owing to the highly period specific stylized Japanese jazz of the late 60's, which is sort of a unique musical form in it's own right.

Unfortunately, the record is in very poor condition, with several deep scratches and dings. I might end up playing it on a junk turntable at some point. I bought it for the cover, so I'm not upset about the condition of the vinyl.

I agree about the release date, although there's not a date anywhere. The liner notes list the speakers used as Sansui SP-2002's, which were first produced in 1969. I find it interesting that other components used were by other manufactures such as Ampex and Sony. Probably because Sansui didn't make an equivalent for studio use.

I’m anxiously awaiting the delivery of the other variant of this album. It has a different cover with a beautiful young woman surrounded by Sansui equipment. The album appears to have all the same songs, just different artwork. An example below...

Too bad the record is junk, though I don't imagine it has much replay value unless you really enjoy 50 year old Japanese pop music performed in the style of the time. I have seen the second record cover you posted the picture of, but never the first one, that I can recall.

I noted the specified equipment used in recording, and surmise equipment provided by other vendors was due to Sansui not having their own gear to fill those needs, as you stated.

Airjmax. Hope your Play Sansui record is in good condition. I was fortunate to find a clean copy. Its recorded very well and actually is a pretty good mix of music. Nice to see some local Sansui gear heads
