Am doing some minor work with a fellow in PA who has quite a bit of tape gear and is building a recording studio with same. Thought you tapeheads might enjoy a couple of pic's of his studio 'work-in-progress'. Several Otari and other high-end machines. 1" & 2", etc. You will be able to tell more than I. Enjoy!

Cool! Did anyone else notice the extremely rare Tascam 52, and (somewhat less rare Tascam 44-OBs)?

Very nice indeed! :thmbsp:

Good lord, can you say "wallowing in it"...:D: tresbon:

Done with love and care, nice racks and all. I wish him well, very ambitious.

Best,
C.

Cha-Ching$$$$$$$$-I also see some Mac gear and 1/4" machines?
That's about 1/2 the Mc gear. The other half still resides in boxes waiting for installation. Lifting the 155 pound MC602 into place is a bit of a struggle. Even for two people.

Super nice, but also super expensive to maintain!

Why does he need 7+ 1/4 inch machines?

meggy interesting yes, but more than hard to earn a living from. This especially if the setup is intended to be all analogue.

Have to admire the guts (and the wallet!) of someone setting up an analog studio like that today, and envy him his playtoys! :thmbsp: :D

A few weeks ago, I took a tour on the "open house day" at the government-owned radio station here (like PBS in the states). They had a bunch of R2R tape decks and racks similar to those. Being government, they had only bought the best over the years, and some of it was REALLY NICE stuff. Much of it was already not being used for recording, as they are phasing over to newer digital systems. I drooled and offered my soul and my first-born to be allowed to help take them away, but unfortunately they said they would keep most of them because all of their archival recordings are in those formats, and they tap into that stuff sometimes when making new shows. For the equipment that they may get rid of, the bureaucratic gear-wheels of government are ponderously slow to turn and byzantine in their complexity. No one there was even sure how or when such disposal decisions were ever made.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Very impressive. I have to tell my brother. He only owns about 8 RTRs.

hehehehe. i laugh and laughed at this one. where in pennsyltucky is he. And i do have a jag too. But just so you know there are only center rings on the mags. and they are really cheap.

I'm originally from PA. People take their gear pretty seriously there. All I can say is...... :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

And as far as his possibly having too many reel decks or whatever, I don't think that anyone in here should be pointing fingers. I have noticed that people here seem to collect a rather large amount of gear of similiar types on a regular basis  :scratch2: :D
