Ford vs. Ferrari

qdrone

Music is my mistress
This movie wasn't what I expected but I found it exciting and exhilarating and informative. After years of Ferrari dominating La Mans, Ford goes to war to take La Mans back. In my youth Shelby, Hill and McCleran were household names but this movie focuses on Ken Miles (Christian Bale)the team driver who pushed Shelby to create a beast,a beast that talked to Miles when he was at the wheel getting every ounce out of it.
Worth your time and consideration esp.
if your a gearhead. Bale deserves an oscar nod for his portrayal.

Not a gear head at all, but enjoyed the movie. I especially liked the soundtrack and the superb acting by Bale and Damon.

I dug the soundtrack to,it used covers of some popular songs of the time. The version of Polk Salad Annie was the sh!t.

Its a shame but the movie house I went to the bass started rolling off at 100 HZ. I couldn't believe the photography and the digital effects. The best ever except for the scene where Miles doesn't survive the crash on the test track. It looked fake as the flames were to distinct and the black smoke to intense for that distance and the angle of the sun at that moment. I am glad the story was based on Shelby . Miles and that A hole from Ford sales as the protagonist. I hate Yes men and people without an original thought. His thoughts were all self centered. and did nothing really for the company other than to stroke Henry II's ego and get him self a bigger pay check. It was fun seeing Shelby take II for a ride in the GT 40. Do you realize how many years Shelby worked with Dodge? I wonder if that was because of Lee Iococa. I will have to say Ferrari was no fool either.

I really enjoyed the film but I could have benefitted by the use of subtitles because Miles' accent was so strong.

I really liked the movie. Lots of backstory about the cars and people I didn’t know about. All the politics and such. I wish they had it in the big Dolby theatre so I could really have heard the cars.

The theater I saw it in had subwoofers in the seats. It was annoying because it seemed artificial.

I liked it and so did my wife, as it was not just a gearhead movie. Bale was terrific; he did remind me a lot of Michael Palin :).

The scene when Miles pulls up to the Ferrari driver and looks over at him was epic. He knew he didn't have the power to take Miles, the Ferrari team was aware that Ford cars were clocked at over 210 mph,Ferrari top speed were around 203mph.
As the movie and Shelby pointed out it's not the car that wins races, it's the driver and Miles was one of the best. When Miles died in a crash every driver who drove said Miles was to good of a driver to cause the crash and the hull of the car he crashed in was gone over by Ford but due to heat from the fire, the cause of the accident couldn't be determined. I think the shot of Shelby holding the spacer Miles suggested be used just before the crash alluded to this being the cause of the crash. Ford was accused of a cover up.

if you didn't know, Netflix has a 2hr documentary "Shelby American" that covers this whole period and more -
a VERY nice view of the real deal!
