Foreigner

Bobcat

Sound Hound
Watched an episode of Rock Legends on Reels the other night highlighting Foreigner.
These are unauthorized, vanilla docs on various bands, some of which are pretty pissed at the erroneous statements made about them.

So, I wanted to start my own discussion of the band.

Their debut album came out in '77 with a number of hits to announce their arrival. I was all in.
Starrider and a few other gems were hidden in there, not to be played on FM, but to be discovered via 8-track (for me).

Double Vision was next which engulfed my HS and was heard playing EVERYWHERE. Over exposed? Maybe.
I love Tramontane.

Head Games
Dirty White Boy, Women and Seventeen rocked and still gets my play.
Rev On The Red Line painted a clear story/feeling. Love songs like this.

Foreigner 4
Enter the female market and exit Bobcat. At this point, I kinda lost track of Foreigner but still appreciate them today.

Their nifty guitar/organ work and song craftsmanship were obviously very good but I think it was Gramm's vocals that hooked millions.

To dig further reveals the same tired story of band infighting and health issues.

If you have a favorite song or anecdote, please help me celebrate Foreigner. Bobcat

I love Foreigner , at least the first 3 albums . They went for a more mainstream , rock sound after that . I always thought they lost their magic or inventiveness after Ian McDonald was fired .

It's been on/off for me re: Foreigner over the years, since the beginning @ that, but I have seen them live a few times (all in the 1970s) and they had their moments on stage, in the studio and scored a few "zinger" hook-laden numbers along the way. The singer - Lou Gramm - this was the toughest part for me: like him in this number, don't like him in that number... repeat. But all in all, I tihnk they earned and deserve their place in the pantheon of arena bands.

PS: I have ROIO -- I think it was a gig in Boston '76 -- @ which they put in a ripping performance in general and the best rendition of "Hot Blooded" I've ever heard ... and I have heard hundreds. The thing ****in' sears and soars.

Having both Foreigner and Boston debut in the same general timeframe was magic for me as I was entering college. Blazing vocals and guitars - couldn’t get enough!

I watched that same Rock Legends show and also caught the The Big Interview With Dan Rather that featured Mick Jones & Lou Gramm (on AXS TV). I always enjoy the insight into the music and songs the artists offer up along with the personal info they offer. Lou really went into his medical issues in depth. Well worth watching for a Foreigner die hard.

I have all the albums thru Inside Information. The debut remains my favorite and most listened to - a virtual "best of" to me. Fave being Long, Long Way From Home which Lou gives an explanation of the lyric "...big apple in decay" in the interview with Dan.

Thread resurrection. Was wondering if they ever release a CD or LP of - Foreigner Live Deer Creek 1993 -?
(Besides the DVD)
