Forte i vs heresy ii

Here is someting I have been considering.....Please chime in with opinions

I think my Forte I's are better for Jazz and vocal heavy tracks such as old county from the 60's and 70's.......BUT PERHAPS NOT THE BEST AT 60's and 70's rock. They are not good at reproducing screaming guitar highs.

Billy, to my ear the Fortes sound great with a lot of hard rock. They have the dynamics (IMHO of course) to reproduce fast guitar work and drums very well. I'm a guitar nut but I find a lot of the recordings of classic rock to be poorly produced which the Fortes can be very unforgiving of. Perhaps this is why jazz sounds better to you with your Fortes. I find much jazz music to be better recorded as a whole than older rock music.

Coytee, I've heard good things about the vintage HK units as well. This was a modern unit with nice features but I didn't care for it sonically.

I agree that jazz is much better recorded. I also agree that alot of the rock albums were mixed poorly

Just a thought Billy. Might not be a bad idea to pull your mids and tweeters out of the cabinets and have a look at the voice coils. If they are ok you can take the opportunity to install fiberglass pads under the diaphragms and you are going to want some anyway. Sounds like you might have some sort of issues going on with your speakers. I you want a cheap two way that is worth restoring which can play very loud and do things your Forte ll just can't keep an eye out for a pair of Peavey SP1's or the separates, FH-1 and MFX-1. These are a little larger than a La Scalla but they will get you into a real big horn for the top which can hold its pattern control down to 500 Hz. and you will need to get into a Klipsch K402 to pull that trick off. The nice part is they can be found for a song if you take a look.
Right now I have a pair of the top horns which are a biradial design 28.5"Wx14.25" Hx18"D they are up on a pair of KLF20 bins with CF3 crossovers and CF3 compression drivers. The big horns are sitting vertically and they sound very good. They sure don't sound like cheap PA speakers that's for sure. This might be something you might want to check out before you commit to a big and expensive rebuild. Best regards Moray James.

im thinking about picking up a pair of forte ii for 330$. the cabinets are a little rough. issue is i have a 15 watt HH Scott tube amp that i plan on using to drive them. or if thats not enough power then a marantz 2245.

think my tube amp is too small?

any idea on the details the fortes will provide as compared to say an ads l700 or l710?

Your Scott will sound great and play at very nice levels won't peel paint but it will play loud with the Forte ll. Can't comment on the ADS but I can say it is not a comparison I would want to make horns to dynamics. Best regards Moray James.

I solved your dilemma by stacking my Heresy II's on top of my Forte I's. Problem solved. :D

Every time I turn on my stereo my Forte I's come on, and I'm thankful I happened upon them completely by accident. They are faithfully true to the classic rock music that inhabits them, and I have no misgivings about the $300 spent on the best speakers I've ever owned. I find them perfectly balanced, smooth and accurate, and bass for days. Whether with analog or 24/192 they are a winner with vintage receivers like the Sansui 8080DB or the Pioneer SX-838, and the schiit bifrost is a prominently new feature in my rig that sweetens everything I run through it.

Michael: you said it one of the best balanced Klipsch speakers the Forte twins are for sure. How good your front end is has a huge impact upon how good your system sounds. Feed a good amp an excellent signal and enjoy. Too many people opt to shoot the messenger or just have a terrible room and refuse to treat it. Best regards Moray James.

My Forte II's are quite a speaker system . I always thought my 5.5's would be hard to beat . Now , I am not so sure . Damn it anyways . I have a GREAT problem to deal with .
