Fortura 10 worth fixing?

I apologize for my imprecision. "Black list" is my short hand for what I was told over & over when I went in a vain search for speakers with AMT tweeters after my Fortura 10s went nonop. AMTs in general (not Fortura in specific) had acquired a bad name in the market due to manufacturing flaws, and speaker manufacturers were shying away from AMTs. That was 1994. Finding no high end units with AMTs, I had to "settle" for a pair of Infinity CS9003. Those were in service till last week. Almost 30 years. Apparently the AMT warts are removed because my new Wharfedales sport excellent sounding, albeit significantly reconfigured, AMTs.

Sounds like you were given much misinformation about the ESS Heil over the years. Glad you like your Wharfedales with Heils. I assure you that the large Heil sold by ESS in 72 can have its diaphragm replaced by a current production model at home by any person with average skills in 5 minutes. Probably much easier than in your Wharfedale. I have mid 70s ESS speakers with original diaphragms that still sound crisp and clear. I have no plan to replace them. So in the future, if you want to consider ESS speakers to add to your collection, no reason to be afraid of them. Enjoy.
