I got sent this VU meter/ speaker & amp
Switcher from Fosi audio to test out and review. Here were my thoughts:
Fosi LC30
At first glance, the Fosi Audio LC30 is just a nice set of VU meters. Looking a little closer you would notice that it's housed in a nice aluminum case, and has large bright meters. There are buttons for changing amp input, speaker output, and a power button. There is a knob to control the levels on the VU meters.
Aside from the the clean looks, and the meters, the first use case I tried was as a comparison tool. The functionality of the device is to be able to connect 2 amplifiers and 2 sets of speakers and mix and match them. For example it can be used to conveniently compare how two different amplifiers perform with common set of speakers. Conversely you could compare two sets of speakers with the same amp. A lot of older amps will power two sets of speakers but this would be helpful with modern amps with only one set of outputs. In addition the switching function can all be handled with the included remote. This allows you to set up the equipment and then switch back and fourth without the delay of rewiring the equipment . In my case I set up my Fosi P3/V3 combo and a vintage Sansui receiver attached to the LC30. I also had the LC 30 to my large bookshelf speakers. With this setup I could enjoy my vintage amp with the speakers and also utilize the VU meters, and then switch to my modern Fosi setup for listening to music via bluetooth.
A second use case I tried was using the LC30 to switch between my P3/V3 stack and my AV receiver for the front speakers of my home theater. This allowed me to use those speakers in a dedicated 2 channel speakers for music, rather than as part of a 5.1 system for tv or movies. In addition, it allowed for listening to music in that location without the television being on. A nice feature of the LC30 is that the lights of the VU meters can be adjusted for level of brightness. So if you have them in your home theatre you can dim or turn off the lights if they are a distraction.
The LC30 worked well in both settings. In the stereo setup it added an a variety of amps to listen to, as well as, the option of an extra speaker output for comparisons. In the home theater setup it allowed for 2 channel music without the television, adding a stereo to the tv area with minimum impact.
Finally, I'd say that if you just want some nice VU meters for your system, these are great for that too. They fit nicely with the P3/V3 stack, and add some more visual interest to a compact or desktop system. Overall, I'm very pleased with the product.
