Fostex FE207E + Tweeter ??

Nikko75

Listener and Music Lover
I'm trying the trusty Fe207E in a 35L or double bass reflex enclosure. Some contenders I have in mind:

*Bohlender Graebener Neo3 (Kaladex) unknown@20kHz
*HiVi RT1II Planar Isodynamic Tweeter 93dB @20kHz
*HiVi RT2II Planar Isodynamic Tweeter 93dB @20kHz
*HiVi RT8-II 8" Planar Isodynamic Midtweet 96dB @20kHz
*Aurum Cantus G2Si Ribbon Tweeter 97dB @20kHz
*Aurum Cantus G2 Ribbon Tweeter 97dB @20kHz
*Aurum Cantus G2Si Ribbon Tweeter 103dB@20kHz

The BG Neo3 is said to be low distortion but with staggered response and I cannot find a graph. The HiVi's are all said to be good and detailed. The Aurum Cantus G2Si has a severe dip centered at 15kHz but are said to be good as well. The Aurum Cantus G3Si has a nice graph and reqires only a bit of padding but is expensive. From your guys experience, which do you feel is a good choice?:scratch2:

I'm curious about this myself, I'm thinking about putting some 207E's in some empty enclosures I have in the basement.

I chose the FE207E for a fullrange since I was told at some time in the past that it is a good detailed driver. I like alot of detail and microdynamics, a sense of realism and the ability to 'hear' the components (preamp, amp, etc) if I want to grade them.
So I'm just trying to find a tweeter that can be as detailed, undistorted and play back near the 207's reference dB. I'd like to give that Bohlender Graebener Neo3 a try as a dipole but I have no idea how efficient it is between 10-20kHz. I've seen the graph for the second version (Neo3-PDR)rated 3dB lower yet it is actually still at 93dB in practice from 10-20kHz.

Why not try one of the Fostex tweeters? The FT17H is fairly inexpensive and should mate well with the FE-207E.

The FE207e is a very high-distortion driver. Honestly, I'd reccomend going with a proper "ribbon" tweeter; the Neo3 does not have the "ribbon tweeter" sound most people are looking for.

Alternately, a small metal-dome Seas or Vifa would fit the bill well.

I tinkered with some emit tweeters with my stephens FR's ran the stephens full and the emit about 12khz and it added that little bit of sparkle I wanted. Pretty cheap and easy to work with. I bet some of the smaller heil tweets would work as well.
