Found a Sansui 9090db in a bulk collection pile need some help! :)

Howdy everyone!

It was working yesterday, and for part of today. what I noticed was the sound to the speakers was working intermittently, then poof, no sound. I also found a Pioneer PL560 which would play albeit quietly. I figured being plugged into phono, it wouldn't need a preamp.

So today after the sound died, no buzzing while moving RCAs, no sound on FM/AM stereo, although the Dolby wattage gauges are moving normally with Dolby on, there's just nothing.

The speaker dial is set to A and plugged into A.
I plugged a record player that has a preamp into phono/aux, and nothing on either.
Removed the jumpers and plugged it into the main-in and nothing.

From what I am reading, it is possibly an amp issue and not a Dolby card issue, since the turntable wont play via the main-in. I assume that when plugged into main-in, it will just play, despite what the selector is set to, ie FM/AM/AUX/Phono.

Assuming it is an amp issue, and not a Dolby card issue, what do I do?

I truly appreciate any help!

The Sansui 9090/9090db are iconic top of the line units from an era when engineering was top notch and Sansui was at the forefront.

Depending on your budget and how far you wanna go with it have it looked at.

Luckily you live a metro are that I'm sure has a reputable repair shop somewhere nearby which if it were me I would be dropping that unit off and having someone do an overall assessment of it in it's current working condition.

Here's hoping the issues are minor and you get to enjoy that beast in all its glory

You won't get sound (or very faint) by plugging tt into main amp input no matter what. Signal from the average magnetic cartridge is way too small.
 
Try a smart phone or tablet pluged into the main in jacks using an adaptor cable.
That is if your phone or tablet has a 1/8" jack on it. Then stream Pandora, etc. using 1/8" stereo plug to dual RCA plug cable. I use these cables to stream to my main system or for testing amps.

I noticed this but the jumpers inserted in the video you posted doesn't look correct they are both connected to the right channels of Phono 1 & 2, When you connected your TT was that the way they were?

I removed those terminators, but the turntable itself never worked in Phono 1 or 2, it only previously worked on preout 1, while 2 was jumped to main-in.
Now nothing, I was test9ing with stereo previously, but that doesn't even work now. :)

Yeah the phono inputs never put out sound from the turntable even before the sound from the stereo stopped. I imagine its why it ended up in the trash. Hell, I'd be happy if the stereo worked. :rflmao::banana:
