Found my old albums

Since moving 18 months ago, had trouble locating my carefully packed album collection. Wife finally found the boxes for me and I started pulling them out and cleaning before listening. Some gems that hold up to any CD versions:

Johnny Winter Second Winter, Bobby Shanon is awesome on bass. Connecting with Steve Ray years later must have been like his second winter.

Emerson Lake and Palmer - second album with Lucky Man still have to clean and listen to Pictures at an Exhibition.

David Bowie Alladin Sane - one of my all time favorites with Mick Ronson still on guitar.

Santana Moonflower - best version of Europa live! A mix of studio and live Santana.

Procal Harem Broken Baricades - Robin Trower on guitar - Simple Sister an alltime classic - haven't seen this on CD.

Lots more to come but it's a pleasure reconnecting to these great albums with a stereo better than I've ever had all because of AK. :smoke:

Nice feeling, isn't it? :music: My wife and I went through a "revival" period after a little AK influence where we literally rediscovered why we love music. Very enlightening to go from BPC or worse to vintage mid-to-hi-fi... :tresbon:

Glad you're enjoying the music :) .

After all the tweaking and experimenting, it is nice to just sit back and listen to good music :music:

:lmao: Been there, done that. So easy to lose sight of the driving force behind our little hobby... music. :music:

I hand-cleaned 12 LPs yesterday (Joy + warm water) and the sonic improvement was astounding. Listened to the Association's greatest hits and Pet Sounds while playing catch with my daughter.

Never heard of Catch With My Daughter.............were they a British group? :D

I have Record Doctor from Audio Advisor. Have a lot of pops and clicks which I thought would have improved more with cleaning.

It's been discussed here before but I feel I need more aggressive cleaning. Been using the cleaner that came with the Record doctor as well as the felt brush. Would like to try stronger chemical, especially on noisy records and try bristle brush instead of felt model.

Any suggestions?

Sometimes just a different not necessarily stronger cleaner is in order. If you want to try only off-the-shelf items then maybe bug tussel or RRL. If you want to adventure into diy territory, you could try oxy-deep or even spray 'n wash diluted. I've used oxy-deep for difficult records. I haven't personally tried spray 'n wash but others have reported being happy. I rinse very well with deionized water (one of the purest waters available)...or it's easy to find reverse osmosis water to rinse...the point being rinse with the cleanest water you can get. I have only used a velvet based brush or paint pad type brush which are both soft. Be careful with too aggressive of a brush. People have lots of different opinions about cleaning so a search could yield lots of different ideas and you can pick what you think will work for you. Clean rinse water is something most folks agree on.

Procal Harem Broken Baricades - Robin Trower on guitar
:thmbsp:

I saw them in concert for the tour supporting the release of Broken Barricades (actually released several months later) and RT was simply awesome, as were the rest of the band, but especially RT. With a Little Help from my Friends it was an awesome experience.

In my opinion anyone who is serious about vinyl should invest in a record cleaning machine or at least make one of there own. It's amazing the improvement this can make in your listing enjoyment.

[pedantic]Isn't "Lucky Man" on their first album?[/pedantic]

I'm pretty sure Pictures at an Exhibition was first. Then self titled with lucky Man. I remember reading that Lucky Man was last minute filler written by Greg Lake (a la King Crimson) and turned out to be one their best. Kind of like Paranoid for Black Sabbath.

Well - I was very wrong. Pics at an exhibition was 3rd album and self titled was first. Sorry Dusty. Shouldn't have questioned you.

Tarkus was 2nd. I had this but can't find it. Porbably in another box somewhere in basement.

Self Titled ELP w/Lucky man was the first album released in 1971
pictures at an exibition was released in 1972

I think it is Tommy (not Bobby) Shannon who plays bass on the Johhny Winter and SRV albums. And isn't it Procol Harum (not Harem)?
I love the crazy piano solo on the Bowie song "Aladdin Sane". That is a great album as well.

Yep - Tommy Shannon and Procol Harum. I haven't been doing so well lately.

But - listening to Johnny Winter "The Progressive Blues Experiment" and "Seond Winter". Great synergy with Tommy Shannon. Bass is great through my AR 2AX's.

I finally bought a used vinyl of "Pictures at an Exhibition". I'm not a fan of live albums, but this one sounds great. In the middle of side1, the synthesizer produces such a low frequency that I could feel the vibrations coming from my speakers.
