Most of you will probably laugh at me for this, but I heard this song for the first time ever a couple evenings ago. I was blown away!!! What he does with that guitar is amazing. I've heard about his "talking guitar," but always thought that was reference to the song "Show Me the Way." I can only imagine being the concert where that was recorded, "Dude, he just totally blew my mind!"

I used to have that LP jacket hanging on the wall in my bedroom (along with a bunch of others) when I was a kid.

Still fun to listen to from time to time. Brings back memories.

Ah good memories. Saw him in concert in Toronto in the mid 70's. I played Frampton Comes Alive constantly for a long time. Wish I still had a copy of that LP.

Great song, great album. I've still got my copy from high school, ripped it at a high sampling rate, cleaned it up in software, and still listen a lot.

The talking guitar was some kind of talk box.

Great stuff, enjoy! There was a lot of great music from that era, look around and you'll find more!

I remember being able to make it home from work and listening to just that song. If I was on time I could get home with 5 seconds or so left in the song :D
 
In Summer 1975 Frampton came through Dallas and played most of the songs in a live studio concert over KZEW-FM 97.9 that would be released on the Frampton Comes Alive album later in Jan 76. I taped it off the air on my Teac A2340. A few months ago I found that old tape and copied it off to MP3, and a link to it is here:

The radio station had more requests for that song than any other in its history. Keep in mind this was live over the FM radio and highly compressed, but doesn't sound too bad.
 
I remember that. I was living in Oak Cliff at that time. I had my Sansui AU 111 with a Eico Tuner and some big assed speakers. Man the Neighborhood was rockin that night. The Kzew was my favorite station
 
Frampton is still putting outs some great stuff. If you liked the first Comes Alive I'd recommend Comes Alive II.... some awesome playing there and great tunes.

Answer: Perhaps being born sometime in the past 30 years.

It's REAL hard sometimes for me at least to grasp just how fast and how much time has gone by since certain "big deal" recordings were current. As a kid in the 70's I remember us looking at the 50's as being the "oldies but goodies." NOW there is a generation looking at the 80's or soon the 90's as nostalgia. :sigh:

Some person today discovering Frampton would be proportional to a kid in the 70's discovering The Glenn Miller Orchestra, or something else from the 40's.:scratch2: NOW I will go break out the Just For Men......:thmbsp:

Once again Tentoze hits the mark. During college, I worked in a record store when that album came out. Sold a zillion of them; mostly to young girls. The other record that ran off the shelves at the time was the "Grease" soundtrack. Ended up hating "Feel" because it was so overplayed (like Layla has become).

No disrespect to Frampton -- he was caught in the starmaking machinery and it was a risky (brilliant) move to release a live album -- took his career to an unbelievable height. His fall from marketing grace was damn impressive after that. But he and his playing have aged rather gracefully.

Go to YouTube and look up Humble Pie if you want to see some of his early "harder" work (up to '71). Of course having Steve Marriott wailing next to you on stage didn't hurt.
 
I actually like Frampton better now then before. He still has his voice and seems to be having more fun performing...

You first heard it just two nights ago? You should continue this exposure to new old songs. Perhaps listen to that nugget, "Stairway to Heaven" next.:D

Yea its a great tune. Better late than never.
 
The local radio stations (KSFM and KZAP) used to over play that album to the point of burning it out. It wasn't till much later that I could listen to it again without getting nauseous. I do like Tesla's version of "Do you feel like we do" from Reel to Reel.
