Frazier Dixielanders Redux

Doucanoe exchanged emails with this seller. He may know more about these than anyone.

Fraziers are next to impossible to get info on these days, but from what I've heard, match them with a tube amp and you have something special.

I'd be over there now if I was close enough.

Thanks Gary. I saw this ad yesterday and have been trying to find info on them, but very little can be found. They defianately look interesting. Hopefully someone here will get them and let me know what I missed out on. Right now I have no money for audio. :no:
 
I got photos from the seller and was hoping to see the drivers but he didn't include them. I have no way of getting those here other than a big shipping bill so I dropped it.

I have seen Fraziers that incorporate horns into their designs and others that dont. These, Im not sure.

The best info on Frazier and May is on the Lansing Heritage site but not much on the line from that era anywhere it seems.

while we're getting our frazier and dixielander on, a friend of mine here in dallas just won the auction on these puppies: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290030771097&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1 and is happy as a clam. a person id'ing himself as a former employee wrote the seller to say he recognized them as 'jack's (frazier) personal speakers'.... i just hope that now he'll sell me the concerto's i helped him purchase at a thrift about a year ago for $40!!
 
They are awesome! The Altec for Frazier horn drivers are very very rare. I overflow with envy on that score, just too shipping prohibitive for me. Particularly since i have this in transit as i make this post

Anyone out there have an extra dixielander cabinet they want to part with, or even a dimensioned drawing?

I also want to say that the dixielanders that are the original subject of this thread are a fantastic preservation/restoration, display those rare birds with pride!

bowtie, I could give you the basic dims but it is difficult to tell you what is going on internaly without tearing into it. Very unique horn load design to say the least.

I let the other pair go about a year ago and Im kicking myself for doing so. I dont think the buyer has done anything with them yet so maybe he would be will to let them go. Problem is, he bought them for much more than I originally paid for them. It would be a painfull buy back :D

That Frazier in the link is a funky one. One thing of note, the small horn/driver is (was) the same as what was originally on the Dixielanders.

I appreciate that RC, but as you probably surmised i'm looking for enough detail in dimensions to build from. It's not an immediacy for me, i just have an inkling to build or restore a pair in the future. My guess regarding the "funky" frazier is that it's an "unfolded" predecessor to the dixielander, i suspect that the back chamber has a similar if not same volume as that of the dixielander, time will tell for sure.

Start with replacing the crossover capacitor(s). I've never cracked open my Dixielanders, as the Mrs. banished them to storage before I had a chance, so I can't tell you what's in there. Frazier crossovers were usually pretty simple, although he often used multiple low value caps instead of one higher value (I think he got a hell of a deal on about a million 1.0 uF caps once).
 
Just for the record, I am providing the prameters I gathered using WT3 for both in cab and free air. Testing "in cab" meaning in the Dixielander folded horn cab. Not sure of how the folded horn is effecting the figures as opposed to using a sealed test box but they are provided for comparison.
