Frazier Model Seven speakers

Howdy- I just acquired a pretty decent set of Frazier Model Seven speakers. The 2 mid-range 4" are blown in one of the cabinets. I am new to all this (even though I am on my sons user name). How can I find the correct replacement speaker- I realize that Frazier as a company is not the same, from some on line research. If I cannot find a set of used or NOS replacements, can some one recommend what I should use to replace both sets? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks- Jeff

Hey Jackson!

I've got a pair of those in my garage. I've got a destroyed cone in one of my woofers, I've never been able to take them for a test run. I did check my capacitors and put in new binding posts though!

The gentleman I bought them from used to sell Fraziers, Bozak, KLH and a few others way back then. He told me those 2 midrange drivers are the same that are in the BOSE 901's. From what generation? I have no idea. I would suggest pulling one and seeing if you couldn't do some searches on the net for BOSE 901 drivers and see if you can find a match that way.

Post images here and someone can run the numbers to see who made them and when.

Biggles

when you say 'blown' do you mean the speaker has a mechanical malfunction or an electrical short, or, are the surrounds deteriorated? there's a big difference

Here is what they look like drbiggles. and shrinkboy- I don't know how to answer your question- There is no sound coming from the speakers and when you push lightly on the cones you get the scratchy noise. Whether that is mechanical or electrical I can't say, but sounds mechanical to me. Here is a picture of the speakers- no visible numbers on the metal, there are are some numbers on the backs of the cones- is that significant? Thanks- Jeff

My son- Jackson- I am using his user - says it is mechanical- that is logical to me.

If you have a basic $10 ohm meter you can put the leads on the speaker connectio tabs and see if one of tjhe registers a reading from3~8+ ohms.If they read open then you need replacements. You can also hook them directly up to you amplifier- if the play then they are OK to use....perhaps! They could still have warped voice coils, read fine, but still scrape. They should be simple enough to source at Parts Express. Measure the good one to get an approx idea what ohm you need then proceed if need to. They are definitely good speakers. Jack Frazier and Bob Klipsch were goo friends and communicated with one another on several of their respective designs. You have something special- restore it to sing once more!

Thanks- they read open on the meter- I am searching Parts Express now!

I love my Frazier collection, don't get to use my 7's often though since my Elevens just take music to another level. Sometimes you can find Frazier drivers on the auction site, I don't know of any direct woofer replacements other than finding originals, but the mids are very similar to the Bose 901 drivers.

If your system is an 8 ohm rated system then these 4" could be dual 4 ohms wired in series to roughly net 8 ohm for the mids, or are 16 ohms wired in paralell to roughly net 8 ohms for the mid section. They look great!
