"Free AR speakers"? Sure, why not!

I responded to a Craig's List free add recently that advertised free AR speakers. No mention of model or anything. Well, I thought hey why not. I don't really need speakers, but I'm a sucker for anything free.

It turns out they are a nice pair of Holographic Imaging M2's. I had never seen or heard of this model before, but I really like them. I can't decide yet if they are really ugly or kinda cool. They were a bit dusty, but they cleaned up pretty well and sound great.

Anyone know much about these? They have great imaging and openness. Not sure how I will use them yet, but they are fun.

Those are very well regarded speakers (and are known especially for what you have mentioned, imaging and openess). IMO, they are really cool but that's an excellent score regardless. I'd be stoked to get those anywhere under $50 for a pair (much less free!)

I just picked up a pr of AR94's on Craigslist for $40 today .......not free but I'm pretty psyched about them.

Levinson used to demonstrate their top gear with the M1 or M2s, and they were sold as part of Levinson systems. I think Mark Levinson was making a point -- that speakers are not the limiting factor in systems -- as well as allowing a lower entry price for his rather expensive equipment.
So I think that you will like them, and the better the equipment ahead of them, the better they'll sound.

Had a pair back in late 80'early 90's. Thought they sounded decent enough to buy another pair. Was running them with an Audire amp. The amp died and I gave them to my brother's who still have them today.
