frequency meters subs bass cv t15

so, I'm getting this system going and got one or two apps for my iphone. dbl; and one or two frequency meters; hard to find a good meter that willl tell me "how low do you go" I think I'm reading low as 33Hz at 90 db;

any recommendations on how to properly meter freq response ?

You'd have to start with the proper space and equipment. I'd hardly trust the iphone mic and electronics to be flat and linear across the 20 - 20khz range. But, that is picking a bit of a nit. If you;re just generally seeking to satisfy a curiosity, the iphone will probably work just fine.

You did include the word "properly" in your question. But, you did not define whether you want to measure the "in room" response of your speakers(as you listen to them), or the isolated response of the speakers themselves without the additional room interaction.

The room/space can have almost as much impact on low end frequency response as the speaker itself.

Personally, i find the thermal imaging camera and app on the iphone much more interesting.
 
fair enough, i did say "properly" - your right it is more of a curiosity, although you hit a fun point; I think I'll try to find a consistent source (I'm struggling with that right now!), and move the speakers around a bit to see just how significant / or not corner loading is. What would a respectable reading of "in room response" be ?

I've just always thought it would be fun to be able to quanitfy the "my speakers rumble down to xx Hz" question; and maybe use to a certain extent some of that data to tweak the eq and surround settings. I'm interested in the accoustics of the room as well; its an interesting "loft" sort of space and I've always wondered about "filling" the space and I've always suspected I'd need something with large drivers and large power to bring it to life; I think I'm getting close with the two 15s but I'd like to start figuring out how to do a kick ass enclosure to give me that auditorium sound check sort of sound; no idea how to get there, (at a reasonable $) though.

thermal imaging - cool, I'll check it out (although I'm afraid to look, my house was built in '79, has tons of glass (at least the units are double pane), and sliders in it; I'm guessing even beyond the sealed units and 79 vintage extrusions, detailing and insulation around the windows is suspect. . .

I'm guessing camaro? nova? el camino? - what you stuff a 427 into?
 
Room size is important, and you will find it is not good coming out of a corner. You say it is a loft, what are the rough dimensions. You will also learn that a QUALITY sub, will mesh with your mains much better, for less money and effort. They already have solved problems that you have not even considered yet. Around here in N.Y.a good used quality should cost about $100 to $150. Setup right you will not even hear it until you need it. It takes a pretty good sub to get to 30hz.
 
realllly slow to reply cause I'd like to sketch- up the space. . . but heres my try at describing it in words: the "listening room" and CVs sit on the 2nd floor; floor plate dimensions are as follows: ( ie all three floors are "open" to one another to some extent). Picture it this way; a three story rectangle of 20 ft by 16 ft on the 1st floor, 2nd floor 16 ft by 16 ft (ie 4 ft open to below); and third floor 10 ft by 16ft (ie 10 ft open to below). Parapets to waist level at "slab edge(s)" If your pictureing it correctly, the CVs sit at the corners of the 16 ft wall on the second floor and fire into the listener who is sitting half way up a 30 ft (approx) wall that is open to above and below immediately behind (me!).

I wish I had bigger corners for these guys; but man they sound great anywhooo. . . fill the whole house, soak up power effortlessly, really bring in big drums and bass in a way that only large drivers can; and all across the spectrum they sound awesome, the horns in combo with the front tweeters just . . .wow
 
It is clear to me that you are in a different league than i am. I can not imagine what two 15" CV's with big boxes coming out of the corners full boar. I ran Concert Grands for years, but this sounds like these may blow them away.
