Just found some pretty good shape black veneer Signature Q/5 bookshelf examples with new correct foam surrounds and open cell foam in the resistive port, and I'm very, very impressed.
Super solid, tight box. Well-constructed drivers. The grills are a weak link IMO, both style and construction, but oh well.
They sound fantastic. A whole heaping helping of solid, fast bass from a teeny tiny enclosure. Not much info out there on this specific example, though...

I had a pair of B/2 satellites and a T subwoofer for about a decade... built them from a semi-kit that Fried was selling at the time. I really liked them... clean, natural, and the coffee-table-sized double transmission line subwoofer could shake the house if the recording called for it to do so.
The sats took some damage during the Loma Prieta earthquake... one fell off its stand, and the shock broke the magnet loose from one of the tweeter frames and it was never the same again... had to call Fried, spoke with Mr. Bud himself (!) and he told me to replace it with a Dynaudio D28.
I eventually sold them, after we bought a house... my wife really disliked the bulk and intrusiveness in the living room. The system I homebrewed sounds at least as good, and fits the decor better... but I do remember the Fried system quite fondly!

I have a pair of A/3a's that I plan on using if and when I find myself in a smaller house or apartment. Beautiful boxes with good drivers. OK WAF. I need to redo the stuffing but that will wait till after I retire in 5 months. They are the last set of speakers that I'd sell of my current collection.
