Very true. I wonder how some of them would sound in the proper cabinet instead of a plastic shell?

Might vary from pretty bad to decent enough? FWIW I liked the 4" FR in a mid-90ies JVC shelf system, probably comparable to some stuff that can be found in HTIB cubes.

You can trace back a generous amount of used drivers to the manufacturer, some are Tang-Bands, and some of those are used in well documented in 'real' FR driver builds. Not worthwhile to attain sonic bliss (imho fwiw etc), but an educational experience at low cort for sure.
