Fully restored, or not??

I have had many tube amps over the years, mostly Scott's, at this point I like them fully rebuilt, all power supply capacity is replaced, all coupling caps replaced with pio, even some resistors replaced. All this is just based on what I like and I do the work for me and not to make money on flipping restored gear. I noticed this scott on the bay and really think it's a great deal but no one buys it.

This isn't a what's it worth kind of question, I just find it interesting that a stock one will go for just a little bit less. Do people like the stock untouched examples over rebuilt ones??
Just look at the work and parts in one like this, I have a 299c and a 222c done in a similar way and they both sound insane and literally run for years without any trouble. Are most people turned off to a amp that has been restored like this??
Do some see a stock untouched amp as a better choice than something like this? Like I said, I rebuild my amps for me and not to make money off them, and to my personal taste, I would not even listen to a stock scott at this point.

I think mabye a lot of people want to do the restore themselves, and that could be why they go for what they do. I've wondered about this very same thing. I just restored a scott LK-72, the before and after sounds was unreal!! But someone had been under the hood and I got it for around $200, after what I put into it with all good nos tubes and fully recap and everything else I probably have into it what a fully original goes for.....and it would blow them away sonically. I have a scott 340B I bought 3 years ago completely stock and played it a lot, sounded good but after hearing the difference in the LK-72 I have to recap and restore this 340b as I feel I owe it to this old receiver!

But there's no way I will ever pay full eBay prices for a completely stock amp, I'm not a collector for all original gear, I'm a listener to old gear that can be made to sound amazing with a lil work!

I just looked at your link, I think if that's restored proper and comes with tubes then it's a great deal, I wouldn't let mine go for that!!

He's advertising NOS OUTPUT's, but is showing JJ output's. Maybe they are for show. He's sending a Chinese 5AR4. I'd be leery of using one. Either a Mullard or a Sovtek as a 2nd choice. But I'm not in the buying mood. If everything is as advertised, and I was in mood to buy, I'd give this one a lot of thought.

Hi Danny, no offense, but you should really start your own post as it is bad etiquette to start your own line of inquiry on someones post. Be that as it may, the first thing is to get it tested to be sure all the transformers are good. I have bought some Scotts with bad output trannies.

I always restore, some say not to, or just do a few things like the heater bias recto, but I go full on. Fresh power supply makes a difference, I use PIO caps or PP caps in the circuit, and a good cleaning. Its a lot of work, and can cost a lot to have done right, but mine run for years without needing anything and to me sound insane. I work in a recording studio maintaining recording gear, so I restore Scotts and other tube amps for fun, so you might spend more then it will be worth depending on how much you bought it for. But, I do think its well worth it if you want to listen to a tube amp often.
