Bought a pair of Fulton 80's in 1977 and replaced them with Rogers LS35A's later. I should have held on to every stereo component I ever owned.
I stumbled into a small apartment-based stereo store in Portland, Oregon, looking for my first stereo system, wanting a system with punchy base and lots of volume. Thanks to Greenwood Sounds' intellectual owner's educational efforts, I walked out several visits later with an HK 430 Receiver and Fulton 80 Speakers; the beautifully accurate mid-range bookshelf speakers. Unfortunately, Greenwood Sound no longer exists.
Later, I met Jim Ott at Northwest Audio Labs in Covarllis, Oregon, and replaced the system with an NAD 3020 that I used as a preamp and a Dynaco 70 tube amp with the LS35A speakers. Jim was an electrical engineer and something of a stereo legend in the Pacific Northwest. He rebuilt and improved the Dynaco and modified the NAD; which he said, prior to modification, was "Not Always Dependable".
My stuff was always high-value fi that sounded great in the smaller rooms where it were used. I was very lucky to have run into the right people while learning to appreciate stereo that sounded like the real thing. I never heard the complete Fulton array of speakers, but I loved the Fulton bookshelves. They did their job extremely well, delivering that elusive combination of musicality and clarity...in the mid-range where most of the music resides. Don't have a good room for them, but I'd love to hear the whole array of the Fulton modulars.
Right now, at age 66, I am debating between buying an HK 330B or HK 430 to run a pair of small Paradigm speakers in the bedroom. I don't think I can make a bad choice, but the 330B costs about half the price of the 430. Any opinions? I've always valued good advice.

Welcome to AK. You might not hear much by posting your question about the vintage HK receivers here. There are lots of existing discussions on those receivers on AK - use the search function to find them.
Or you might want to start a new thread to request opinions on the 330B or 430. I've owned the HK 430 - all the HKs from that era were terrific and built to last. Good luck.

Not sure that a 430 is twice as good as a 330b. In fact I'm sure it's not. but everything depends on condition, recent servicing, and your own system and tastes, both in terms of sufficient power for the speakers/room/volume you like, and looks and feel, which are important. Keep in mind that it takes twice the power to go 3dB louder, so if the 330b isn't powerful enough for you, the 430 might not be either. But don't go by specs - the HKs are more powerful than ratings might suggest since the dual power supplies do help. If you can, try them both.

Nice..... Fulton's are nice... they don't pop up to often....and at that price.

Funny there was a little HiFi shop in Mission Bay off of I 5 in San Diego and I ended up with the exact same combo. This was my introduction to the wonderful but slightly crazy world of Audio. Dr Fulton recommended the HK 430 in fact as I remember he preferred it to the HK 730. I was thinking of splurging and getting the HK 730 but the good Dr thought the HK 430 was a better product.
