Fun Project: Technics SL-1200MK2 Illustration

Since my humble portfolio of Hi-Fi Stereo Gear illustrations contains no turntable so far I decided to change that. And I had no better idea than to choose the SL-1200MK2 for this :-)

Will post some WIP pics here – just in case that anybody likes to follow the progress of this fun project.

I started with the »dotted platter rim«, and man, it took me quite some time to understand the theory behind it, and then to construct all of those dots. It is no less than 717 of them

The next chapter will be the tonearm’s mounting post construction (the tonearm itself should be easy afterwards).

Problem is that I’ve found no suitable photo of that mounting post area in the net. It should be one that was shot just vertically down like looking from the ceiling in a way. Is by chance someone among us having a SL-1200Mk2 in his/her living room, who would be kind enough to take such a photo and post it here?

Constructing the »Arm-height adjustment ring« separately, to avoid more confusion ...

Is there some tuning mark for this anywhere, to read the actual height?

There’s a tiny nodule/notch at the base of the tonearm lift mechanism. But you can’t really see it from a top-down view.

Could you be so kind to measure the distance between platter axis and tonearm axis, @Hoytis? I’ve found 215 mm for this, but I’d like to be sure. Thank you!

Man ... Re-creating all those elements is about to drive me nuts

On the other hand, as a side effect: My admiration of the folks who designed the real thing some 45 years ago just grows and grows and grows.
