Fusion Tempest 12

Anyone on here built this speaker? It's available on diysoundgroup.com as a kit, with a flat-packed CNC-cut cabinet available as well. It's not cheap, but it sounds like the sort of high-efficiency, powerful speaker I've been wanting for a while. The reviews are excellent, and it seems even the designer seemed surprised how good it sounded, considering he was trying to make a "budget-ish" version of a TOTL design.

Some comments on both with Jeff's input here: http://techtalk.parts-express.com/s...-Definimax-12-SEOS-Econowave&highlight=zephyr

From my backseat position, I think somebody should talk Bagby into revising the Zephyr crossover for more of a downward tilt. These types of speakers have a bit much HF energy for the average room. Fortunately, it's also pretty trivial to change to suit tastes/rooms with these types of speakers, be it with line level EQ or crossover mods.

If you end up building a pair of those I'll have to swing by, as my new sales territory will encompass IA. :)

Seriously though, I'd love to hear a pair.

have never seen a retailer charging a paypal fee so blatantly before:

Packaging Material: $5.00
Paypal Fee: $9.45

I run Wayne Parham 4PI speakers... Quite similar. I'm sure what you are looking at would sound excellent as they are basically wave guide speakers and many have built them and love them

If you have some extra $$$... Look at Wayne Parham 4PI and think about the 15" JBL 2226 with the B&C DE250 compression driver

I know this is a old thread but DIY soundgroup is not a retailer, he is someone who is doing kits for the DIY community. There is no profit for him. Their is a little extra cost to give to the speaker designers. The package and paypal fee is so it does not come out of his pocket.

i ordered the 2cuft cabinets today, so i'm committed! i'm saving up another month or two for the components. not sure how i'll end up finishing the cabinets in the end though...

Updates on this project:

With the help of AKer bsabel, I assembled a really solid pair of cabinets. I will post pics....someday?

I purchased a pair of closeout terminal cups used in Mirage speakers for ~$3 each from P.E. -- much better quality and better looks than anything for available for several times that price, though it wasn't incredibly easy to make the cutouts for them...

I ordered the actual speaker parts yesterday, and I ended up going for the Alpha Zephyr instead! It was a difficult call to spend the extra money for a speaker that might be slightly less enjoyable out of the box, but at the end of the day I felt like the Definimax is just a better built driver with somewhat less distortion, and with the flatter output it would be easier to EQ to taste down the road. I also don't plan to use a sub right away, and my understanding is that the flatter output (compared to the Tempest) leads to the impression of deeper bass with the Zephyr, especially when referenced to peak midbass output.

I purchased a gallon of Duratex to finish the cabs. The durability of this stuff should come in handy with the kids around and in case I ever decide to gig these out a bit at parties.

So...these could be ready to bump in 2 weeks maybe!

I have been considering these or the tempest's, so I look forward to your opinions or comments on how these compare to other speakers you have used.
