G9700 connector cut?

Hi everyone I’m in the process of restoring a Sansui G-9700 when I came across a connector with two wires cut. The connector is 1 of 2 that go from the switch selector board F3076 to the Equalizer board F2865. Each connector appears to be for phono 1 and phono 2. I’m puzzled why these two wires were cut and should I reconnect them?1B9A1E62-E9F1-4F96-B258-12CCCE6F3097.jpegA7731E63-6F99-4405-9772-37EA23707371.jpeg BCB9BEA2-B30A-4E1F-A757-783ADCB27952.jpeg0BFDD694-C983-47CA-8434-C032BDCA0D73.jpeg

Yes, I think you should reconnect them, they are ground wires, and could be very important for maintaining ground continuity in the unit, and for screening the very sensitive Phono inputs.

I agree with Pete, I'd leave them, I can't remember on my 9700 but it is highly likely the factory did that to sort out a ground loop.
They'll most likely be connected at the other end in which case the shielding will be creating a "faraday cage" for those cables anyway....

Thanks for all the input unfortunately the receiver did not work prior to this rebuild.

I think I’m of the same opinion that they were cut for a reason at the factory. I think I’ll leave them as is for now an once I get it powered up I’ll see if there is any issue with either phono input, I can always reconnect them later…

Well, the reason I said reconnect them is because I have never heard of anyone (in 15 years on AK), reporting them as cut! - therefore I consider them not to have been cut at the factory. But it's fine to leave them and only connect them if you have an issue, I guess we'll find out who is right soon enough. :)

Understand, but having worked a lot on the GX700 series receivers, there are a lot of unexplained things that are either incomplete, wrong, missing, cut, backwards and so forth.......so to me this is more likely a factory thing rather than someone fiddling, the connector is not even that easy to get to.....

Best thing is to try it and see if its all good, if its not, we'll know what it is...
