Garage sale find - Dahlquist DQ10

Picked up a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10's with optional stands today for my favorite price......... Free
They have rotten woofer surrounds (missing) and the wood veneer needs some attention.They are complete.
These speakers are extrememly dusty and the crossovers are thick with dust.
Any ideas or links as to how best to start cleaning these up would be greatly appreciated!
Can an amateur rebuild a woofer from the kits I see online?

Congrats! I think that's an Advent woofer so should be easy to refoam, someone correct me if I'm wrong?

When I found mine they were in the same condition. I tore them down completely and washed the crossovers in soapy water, sprayed the cabs black, mirror image them and put them back together with new woofers. They sound great. Oh yea I replaced the grill cloth and freshened up the wood parts.

You can get surrounds from Rick Cobb (looneytune2001) on Ebay. Easy to install, and the fit perfectly. Compressed air and a small brush would go a long way to cleaning them up. Nice find!

That's a score! I guess my $10 pair cost that much because my woofer surrounds are good (for now). My mid surrounds are bad though. Same deal, dirty, cruddy, with the stands. Sound GREAT! Lot of work cleaning them up and getting the grill cloth off (I painted the metal and will run them "nekid").

I used an air compressor and a light touch (don't go "digging" with the air blast). Then I use some artist brushes I picked up at another yard sale just for cleaning gear. More air, more brush, etc... all carefully and gently. Then I go in with a q-tip or something to get at nooks and crannies. Until I think I can stand it. I HATE breaking things so I go easy and leave things be. Dirty will play!

The screws on holding the grill on the box can be a bitch to loosen and turn out as well as the screw on the inside holding the wood cheeks to get the old grill cloth off. LOT of sweat.

Take all the little screws out of the metal grill on the back so you can ge that off and get to things. The grills come next.
