Hi, hope everyone is having a nice holiday!!!! I have kind of converted my garage into a stereo room and have all my vintage stuff set up out there. Five sets of old speakers (Wharfedale, Bose 301, CV DX7,etc.) driven by a not so old Onkyo amp, JVC CD player, etc. My question is---will running this set up in 45 degree temps hurt any of this equipment ??? Does it need to "warm up" for a few minutes before playing?? Or can I just hit the system power button and go for it ??? Thanks.....

) will hurt anything as long as you're not getting condensation. However, I wouldn't go 0-60 right out of the hole no more than you stomp your foot to the floor in your car right after starting it (unless it's a rental, that is. 
).

I think it also matters how much you value that gear. A couple of weeks ago we had a decent sized snow dump. It was about -15 C and I fired up the garage system. The cost of the system was about $30. The value of having some 54-40 cranked while shoveling more snow than I should be required to shovel was almost priceless. I would not put my better gear through it, but it is a garage system. I tend to have a use it or lose it theory with my garage system. YMMV.

FWIW, I've had a Onkyo TX-4000 receiver out in my unheated garage for several years now, though the icy cold MN winters and summer inside a closed up garage. Has yet to fail me and I turn it on when I want it on, regardless of temperature. I just don't crank it up right away before the speakers have had somewhat of a chance to loosen up, which may be wishful thinking anyway when it's 10 below zero.
