Try naptha (lighter fluid) to remove the dust-bug mount. It shouldn't hurt the lacquer at all. Don't use alcohol or lacquer thinner or even that goo-gone stuff without testing it on an inconspicuous area first. If a q tip soaked with the solvent picks up any color, don't use that solvent.

I ended up filling a shot glass full of windex, then turned it upside down over the mound... left it for about 12 hours (only lost 1/3 of the liquid) and then wiped up the resulting goo. There is a red spot that stained the enamel though... it’s faint but present.

Missus uses this recipe for mold and many other things. I bought a new to me Dodge ram (95) and the fold down middle seat / arm rest was really gross with mold on the plastic surface. I tried a few things and it would not budge so went to get this spray, sprayed once and it just wiped off!
1.5 liters of water
300 mls of white vinegar
60 mls of dish wash liquid
25 mls of eucalyptus oil
3 table spoons of Lectric soda powder
Mix soda powder and 1 cup of boiling water add this and rest into a bottle and shake. can be used on kitchen benches sinks toilets laundry stains, wach freshener, floors can carpet stains and of course mould.
