Garrard 301 value

I saw this listing earlier today and thought the price to be extraordinarily high, especially considering the amount of damage this table took. The knobs are broken, the plinth has corner damage, top plate is bent badly, etc. It sold within hours of being listed.

There are other 301s out there which sold for less and appear to be in much better condition. Can anyone explain why this hot mess went for $1500?

Aside from the ding in the chassis and the broken switches, that's a gorgeous specimen of a gray grease bearing Garrard 301. The switches are notoriously fragile and replacements are available, so for the cost of a couple switches, someone made out pretty well on that one - the gray grease models are commanding a serious premium now. Too bad about that dent, though.

The plinth is generally considered expendable - most people will be putting the tables into new, custom-built plinths.

Nice. I'm glad I didn't see it earlier! I might have been tempted...
