Garrard 401 eddy brake removal help

Im in the middle of a restoration and am having issues removing the eddy brake from the motor spindle.

The color comes off fine but then the brake won’t budge. Is this a matter of just pulling on it until comes loose? Didn’t want to damage the spindle or brake.

Also, is there a way to oil the motor spindle without fully opening the clamshell housing?

Same for the 401. If you're working from the top with the motor still in the chassis, you'll have to remove the capstan, rotate the brake magnet, and back off the set screws.

Thanks for the help! yeah that’s what I figured. It just wasn’t moving even with the grub screws loosened. But it’s good to know that it’s probably stuck from old age.

Once the eddy brake is off would you be able to oil the motor spindle from the top without opening up the motor clamshell housing?
 
The manual says to oil the motor spindle from the top through the holes in the disc, but also says unless there is a strong indication of a need for oil, don't. The bearings are oilite or similar, which retrain oil. I've never oiled mine, but it appears the oil just goes to the motor spindle and the top of the bearing.

Take the measurements, figure out where you want any custom cuts (finger lifts, tonearm clearance, etc.) and visit a plastic fabricator in your area. Show him what you want. I did this for the dustcover on my 301. Came out great, only 1 week wait, no shipping hassles. Only cost me $120.

Thanks that's a good idea, it's just that at the moment my 401 is totally as it left the factory and I would love the same cover it was made with if possible.

No, I'm not, in fact, the more I read up on it the more I think you are right, the one on my Kenwood KD 990 is exactly the same size, But I'm not using that one, I haven't really looked it over yet so I'm not sure what my final train of thought will be, I do fancy a real wood and gloss lacquer look plinth so I will slow down and think it through, I'm just a little bit in awe of it at the moment.
