Garrard lab 80 please help

I have a lab 80 that I'm having trouble with. I'm still a novice in the tt world so please excuse my lack of technical terms.

When I play a record in manual mode, I have to hold the cueing control button to drop the tonearm. It drops very slowly, I used 500,000 weight silicone damping fluid. The stylus will lower to the record but after I release the manual, it risws back up. Even if I adjust the knurled nut on the bottom, it will stay lower but always picka up of the record.

Also wheb playing auto, the tonearm does not automatically move over per selected record size.

Pretty fair bet the mechanism is gummy and needs to be cleaned and re-lubricaded. Every old changer I've touched has that problem, and the Lab 80 is a fussy machine at the best of times. I have two.

British record changer grease tends to commonly harden and turn to congealed globs at best, and at worst turn to cement. It causes most of your grief with Garrard, BSR, and Collaro turntables and changers. Cure is get rid of it all, and relubricate with the proper lubricants when and where called for.
