Garrard model 210 stylus.

Ambition beyond ability
Hi guys,
I was lucky enough to save an old console from the dumpster a few weeks ago. The old girl bought it new, before her son was born. He's 50 now and helped me load it.

Anyhow, its got a real nice Garrard 210 record changer. Surprise, surprise, the stylus is knackerd. Almost no left channel, and right is bad.

Done some searching, it seems a stylus for this one is a bit hard to track down.

I have decided to keep this one. I've sold a few pulled from consoles, but this one is worth keeping. I figure I should be able to play the few 78's I have, but I'm not sure if I can get a LP/78 stylus, with stereo LP.

Any help would be great:thmbsp:.

Its gonna depend what cartridge is in the thing. Are there any markings on it? Some of them don't use replaceable stylii, but the cartridge itself is the replacement unit. I have an RC121 with an Astatic cartridge like that. Just pop the whole cartridge out of the holder and fit a new one. I got a new one on Ebay for like 15 bucks.

Pics ? Does it actually flip the stylus, or the whole cartridge ? And is it a front flip or a top flip? Some of the old GE cartridges had a knob that stuck through the top to reverse the stylus. Astatic sometimes flipped the whole cartridge.

Its a front flip, whole cartridge filps. The stylus clips to the cart, both 33 and 78. Its a dainty bit of tin, shaped to clip into grooves, with a long protruding neck, for want of a better word, with a saphire or diamond tip. There are 2 tabs just behind the tip, that nestle into 2 grooves on the coil or magnet in the cart. Not sure which. I would be guessing, but I think its the coil, so I guess its a MC cart.

I'll upload some pics if this desciption is too hazy.

Hi

sounds like you have a Ronette crystal or maybe they were a ceramic cartridge from the late 50's or so. Try Canadian Astatic they have a wide range of replacement stylus and old phono cartridges in stock for these old units
