Garrard Model 82?

Hi all! I’m a semi long term record collector, and recently got an old Garrard model 82 from my papa. Now anything’s better than the Crosley suitcase that I’ve been using, but I was wondering if these were any good?

Well, it was definitely trying to spin. It just wasn’t succeeding. We got it to spin at a normal speed for a couple seconds, but couldn’t replicate it. The needle also bounced horribly, like not just a little bit to skip a second, but so much so that it was going several inches from the record and falling back down (I still haven’t checked the record, I’m too scared)

"trying to spin" means the idler wheel needs attention.

removing the platter should reveal a rubber disk, carefully remove it, keep track of c-clip & washers, then thoroughly clean the rubber edge with warm water and a green scotch pad.........clean the idler's bronze bearing, idler spindle and idler washers with alcohol

before reinstalling the idler, place a drop of oil on the bronze bearing and spindle and carefully reassemble without getting oil on the rubber. If you get oil on the rubber, simply clean it off with alcohol

do this, give it another try and report back
