General transistor replacement policy (Mcintosh MA5100)

Hello all - I'm working on a 1966 vintage Mcintosh MA5100 doing a refresh. I plan on replacing all electrolytic caps and any film cap in the signal path. The amp currently works though I think there are dirty switches and pots preventing much volume out of it. My question is general policy on replacing transistors. All the small package transistors have either gold or tinned legs with no visible corrosion or 'black legs'. I would think unless the transistor(s) is/are bad, to keep the sound character of the amp, I should keep things as original as possible. I notice the rebuild kits on ebay have loads of transistors present but when I did my C28 preamp I built my own parts list and only replaced one transistor that was bad. That's what I plan on doing with this amp but wanted to get some feedback on what you guys would normally do. What would you guys suggest? Thanks in advance!

FWIW, I`m thinking that you might get better forum exposure, and constructive suggestive replies to your questions, if you had posted this Mc. products specific request in the McIntosh forum section, instead of posting in this DIY area !
