I had bought a brand new Project One 1500 in 1980. It was/is a beast 150 per channel. I sold it long time ago.with my pair of Pioneer HPM 100 speakers, I've regretted it to this day.
Question to you..I have a chance to buy another one on eBay for $1500 / or a Pioneer 1250 at 165 watts channel for a price of $2900, the Pioneer reciever has been rebuilt. Or a Marantz 2385 Receiver. 185 watts per channel... fully rebuilt and restored All the mains, transistors, and caps have been replaced. All new bulbs put in as well. Controls have been cleaned and unit detailed. Service was performed by a technician with over 23 years experience in vintage electronics would you do ?

Also, none of the above at that price. I have decent stuff, and have over paid many times. Something that really blew me away was that one of the Schiit amplifiers just got a Stereophile Class A rating. The thing costs 800 dollars. Put that with a decent preamp and you're well on your way to very high end sound. IMHO.
 
A purchase like that would need to be driven by some emotional background. I take it the Project One has that and you want it back. And it cost less. So less at risk.
But if I wanted power I wouldn't be looking at receivers.
So for me none of them.
But given enough money in the bank I would might have all three.
 
I voted for the Pioneer as there was no other choice. But other wise like other have said I would be looking for pre-owned Mcintosh from Audio Classics. You get a guarantee and warranty. And you know Mac will last a long time. Mine have.
