Genesis G500's - What would you pay?

SimplySound

I'm looking at a pair of Genesis G500's but don't know much about them or what they might be worth.

Anyone have a pair and what do you think of the sound? I'm a KEF R107 guy and wondering how these might compare.

And what do you think the going rate is on a pair in pretty nice shape?

People seem to be all over the board with those and the 5.1's, etc. 500's were some of the first ones though. Range is probably in the $1,500 to $3,000 range. I don't know how they compare to the KEFs.

Thanks Kurt, I've heard the Bass is pretty amazing with the Servo-Drive and the high end is pretty rich and detailed being a "ring radiator". It would be interesting to set them up next to the 107's but I don't have that option.

The other thing is I've read the Amps can die and not be able to be repaired. I guess there is a replacement available but I haven't been able to find any info on the cost of that option. Anyone ever replace the Plate Amps on their 500/501's? :scratch2:

I don't know about the replacement amp for that model but they do have a replacement for my APM--1's which include the woofer as well. It's $2,500 a speaker!!! It also works with several other models - V, 5.1 etc. I can't remember if it is posted somewhere on their site but Gary's wife answered me with the cost. I am sure it is a very good quality replacement but I can't afford that. So, I bought another set of APM-1's instead, for a very low price as one speaker's amp was shot and the others was not.

Several guys at the dealer I bought my APM's from thought the earlier version of the V's had better bass. The tweeter was good no matter which model.

Yeah Kurt, got an answer on the 500/501 amps and they are $5K for the pair. Well the speakers were $11K speakers back in 1999! So I can see it...

What I was looking at was the pair on the Bay without the amps for $1500. But not sure I'm springing $6.5K for a pair of these!
