Genesis I+

Well, I had seen a pair of these at a store nearby, but hadn't really looked at them as the woofers needed refoaming, and I knew little about Genesis, but after reading the thread in the Infinity forum about Arnie Nudel being involved in Genesis, I went and looked them up, and found out that they are Genesis I+, and should be pretty nice. I have a pair of Kappa 7s which I love, but I need something smaller, and something 8 ohms for a tube amp I recently aquired.

I was just curious if anybody had any experience with these, and if anybody knew the efficiency. The website I found with info on Genesis doesn't even say.

They had been at the place for close to 2 weeks last I was in there, which was just under a week ago. I will stop by tomorrow, and grab them, assuming they haven't moved.

They're not the world's most efficient speakers, but by all means, if the price is right, grab them. They're outstanding.

Nah, damn. I think I am wrong. I think they are V-6s instead.

edit:
Actually, I have no idea which one it is. They look almost identical.

edit 2:
Well, looks like Genesis had a bunch of small speakers that look all about the same. The one there does have a green surround, which makes me think its probably the I+, but I am not sure. There is no label on it, that much I know, so when I pick it up, I will need some help telling for sure!

Tell you what. If it has the distinctive 8" woofer and inverted dome tweeter, and the price is decent, it's hard to go wrong. That tweeter is pretty awesome. Only thing I can think of that's a better bang for the buck is that woofer.

It has to be the I+ or V-6, as they are the only two with the green surrounds. I will be able to tell the difference between them via the 8" or 6" woofer. I just want to know if the V-6 is still a decent enough speaker.

They are $20, by the way, I believe. Maybe a few dollars or so off of that. I might try and talk them down, as the woofers need refoaming. My budget is pretty tight, so I'd like to spend as little as possible.

I think you would enjoy either. They both use the same tweeter and from experience that tweeter will do the the upper range very well. The Genesis I does good bass given its size and is an excellent all around bookshelf speaker (very similar to the EPI 100 if you have ever heard them). The V6 will be similar but a little lighter on the bass IMO.

I think it comes down to the music you plan to listen to them on. Not exactly a speaker you can crank and the tweeters can be a little fragile. For Jazz-Accoustic or Classical either speaker will make you happy. Even Rock at moderate volumes will sound very good.

IMO-If they are Genesis I's and you have to sink $20-$30 into them for a foam kit then you are more than in the ballpark in terms of their overall value. If they are V6's then I think your total coast would be more on the upper end of what their overall value. This is assuming that the cabinets and grills are in good shape.

My best friend from high school was visiting last night and we were talking about these very speakers as he owned them back then. He mentioned that he still has them in their original boxes and was wondering if they could be repaired. Told him I'd be glad to refoam them and possibly recap. They were terrific speakers with an excellent tweeter. For $20...go for it!

I have 3 sets of Genesis 1+, a set of 1's, and a set of 2's. They were popular in this area and I have been hoarding all I can find. You can get the foam from folks on here and they sound great for a two way speaker.

I gave a pair of nice-sounding Genesis 1+ speakers to my son, along with a BIG Optonica receiver.
He likes the sound....a LOT!!

Steve

I have a single V6 and I quite like it. It's got the smaller woofer and the port. The bass is obviously not the deepest and I think it comes off a little boomy in the low end, but the tweeter is the same as the other Genesis' so the high range is great. Perfect little speaker for a small room and music with less bass emphasis.

Errr, and I'm looking for a twin for my V6, FYI. . . .

Oh damn, almalo, those were the ones I was speaking of. Stay away from that for that reason, huh?

If I can pick them up for like $5, should I?

They would be good for $20 in my opinion, I was going to buy those and re-foam, one tweeter looked like it was leaking a brown fluid from it, the tweet may or may not be good, if you had time and a little money, those would be nice speakers to hang onto, even with a tweet replacement, they would be an easy re-foam

I'm going to go by there in a while, so if they look alright, I'll see if I can't get them cheaper. I am not exactly strapped with cash, so $20 for the speakers, $20 for foam, and $40 for a new tweeter = way too much for me, but I'll look.

Well, I picked them up, and to be safe, I checked the impedance before hooking them up to my tubes..... its wrong! They are supposed to be 8 ohm speakers, but they test at about 4!

Something tells me the tweeters voice coil is shot.... 1Megaohm impedance across it seems much too high.

edit:
Nevermind. They work fine. Are they a high impedance tweeter like the EMITs in my kappas? Any ideas why the test at 4, but are supposed to be 8?
