Genesis Physics score!

EPI-Center

Super Member
I've been stalking these Genesis Physics 410's for some time, trying to get the buyer to ship them....he wasn't into it, I wanted to possibly take a trip down there ( 6 hours one way) if need be...he told me last thursday someone else was calling about them, I told him "I'll be there Monday" and promptly requested a vacation day. The funny part is, I haven't seen any Genesis around and about 3 weeks ago scored some II's at the SA for 10 bux for the pair.

A long drive, and hadn't seen the Big Apple in about 25 years (doesn't look the same without the 2 monoliths) ....the Jersey Turnpike costed nearly 8 bux each way, what a ripoff...then the GWB was also up to 8...if you're going to Cape May from NE stay off the turnpike if you can.

Anyway, did the deal today and I'm quite happy, am looking at a midrange refoam, which I've never done, but hopefully it's the same deal as the woofer. I visited with Huw Powell last Friday, and he told me these are really top notch speakers, I love the Genesis tweeter, I actually think it's more refined than the EPI and their boxes are super tight. Even with the passive they aren't really boomy, just tight. Love these speakers...glad to have these behemoths around.

Nice catch !

I'm a big Genesis - EPI fan and I expect that you will enjoy those a lot.

Once you get the mids re-foamed be sure you post your impressions.

Hey-
I was the other guy....no wonder the guy never called me back over the w/e! I needed them like I need a whole in my head, especially since I just got lost my job, but they were tempting! Congrats on a nice score

Nice find! Passives do generally sound "tighter" than ports as there's less midbass leakage through it. Those midranges look like hefty little things - and yep, refoaming them isn't much different from a woofer. You've just got to be careful not to use too much glue as adding extra mass to a midrange will change its sound.

I wasn't aware of how truly massive these things would be, and the stands are screwed into the bottom of the speakers with huge screws that I couldn't get out, I drove a honda civic to pick them up and just barely got one in the trunk. They have a really nice finish though....I hope they sound as good as they look, all the speakers I have are 2 ways.

oh man, sorry to hear about your job. I honestly was wondering if there was truly someone else or if he was just trying to remove my negotiating power. If I'm not mistaken, they'd been up for maybe 2 months.

6 hour drive? :yikes:
Sounds like this was the pair at the Jersey shore?

The seller had listed them, off and on for about year, IIRC.
But he was a little high on his price, and just a little too far for me. Though not 6 hours, far. :D

So they sound good huh?
I figured they would, but I've got like 20 pairs of speakers as it is....

Congrats, they look very nice!

thanks, he was down near vineland...haven't heard them yet but I have the Genesis II's that I just recapped and refoamed and I think they're fantastic...they sent the Boston A100's up to the daughter's room.

I have a pair of 2+ that I think are outstanding. I would LOVE to hear these! I bet they are really something. Congrats!

Oh, I am jealous, too. I own Genesis III's and have been wanting 410's since I first heard a pair in a high-end store in 1980. Couldn't afford them then, haven't seen a pair since. Great get for you. Now get those drivers refoamed and crank 'em up! :thmbsp:

Vineland? I had no idea they were that far. :yikes:
I'm glad I kept my 'I need these' voice in check. Vineland is a long ride for mee...and I live in Jersey!

Good score!

EDIT:
Hehe, I just checked my old bookmarks those aren't the pair I was speaking of. :scratch2:
Looks like there are another pair of Genesis at the Jersey shore. EPI, up for another road trip? :lmao:

hell no! I'm still sore from sitting for that long and that was a lot of heavy traffic.....plus the wife is not impressed with my speaker fetish at all....she doesn't care how good they sound

now I see what you're talking about, I would have tried to talk him down...those are super nice...wow
I bet he won't come down though
