Genesis speakers: Anyone know the model?

pilotputz

Super Member
I just picked up these speakers today. I've heard others speak of Genesis speakers but have never heard them myself. Does anybody know what model these are? They stand 23 1/2 inched tall and are 14 inches wide and 7 1/2 deep. They are a 2-way speaker with the 8 inch speaker on the bottom being a passive radiator.
The woofers need to be re-foamed. Are these speakers any good? Are they worth a re-foam? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Refoam them. They are the fancy cabinet version of the 2 or 2+, I believe.

A two way with passive radiator.

You should be pretty pleased with the results.

Hey kfa888 and thedelihaus!!
Thanks for the info and your thoughts!
Hey, thedelihaus, thanks so much for the link! That's exactly what I wanted to know: You rock!

Any advice on where to buy some new foam?

member Homer J simpson has mixed up some green foam, but dunno if these had green or regular color foam from the factory.

You could always contact GordonW and Re-edger here at AK. I've bought stuff from gordon in the past and it's been a very good transaction.

I plan on sending Re-Edger some business soon as well.

either fella will get you what you need at a fair, reasonable or exceptional price.

Re-Edger has always hooked me up and sent me the right stuff the first time and real quick, a very good source.

The tweeters are mid 1980's vintage. These are great inverted dome tweeters of the Burhoe type lineage (i.e., EPI/Epicure). They started slitting the outside of the dome and glueing them to a foam surround at some point in the 80's.

I have three generations of these tweeters and these are as good as the first-gen masonite faceplate versions (paper dome with cloth surround). The often seen plastic version with "EPI" molded into them doesn't sound nearly as good to me.

The first gen and the late gen Genesis tweeters have the same larger fixed magnet size. The plastic faceplate ones have smaller magnets. Perhaps there is an effect on the sound...

Get your foams from ReEdger ...great guy to do business with! He gets my highest recommend!

I am a Genesis and EPI fan so once those are done I expect you will enjoy them.

Good score!

Put new caps in them too!

I have been raving about my Genesis 2+ since I put caps in them. These are really, really outstanding speakers.

The surrounds on the passives are OK; but the woofers are shot.

Found some surrounds and have them on the way. I can't wait to hear these babies!!

Thanks for the advise, Fast Eddie!! I'll order up some new caps as well. Thanks again!!!

Resurrecting an old thread. A friend of mine found a set of these and is having me take a look at them. Will post my impressions and some pictures!
