Genesis Speakers Question

I found a pair of 2+'s in nice shape. I thought the ORIGINAL speaker components from Genesis were always in a lime green color foam for the speaker surrounds. These do not have that. Is anyone familiar with Genesis speakers? Also, one tweeter has an aluminum dome and the other doesn't, but both have "Genesis" on the face plate... interesting. Any comments and advice appreciated. I had a pair of 2's in high school and they brought back memories. Thanks!

Gonna need some pics, as if they have been refoamed they won't be green (unless you know some sort of hand shake I've heard :thmbsp:). Also at http://www.humanspeakers.com Hue Powell makes a upgrade, and replacement driver that uses an aluminum cone, so lets hope its that. Other wise someone has dissected a great set of speakers! :tears:

jdcglasnost - The current speaker components are NOT the green foam type. I checked out the humanspeakers website and sent them an email asking for info. I had a pair of Genesis 2's and that's what tipped my memory about them. Some of the vintage pics on the website show green foams and then a few don't. So, I'm not sure... The current owner has no clue either. Thanks for your comments.

More info - I was wrong about the model and this may answer the "green foam" question too. These are Genesis 210's, made in the 1980's. Apparently only the 1970's vintage had green foam surrounds. I found this info on the humanspeakers.com website, product sheet.

Anyone have any experience with the 210's or Genesis speakers from this era? Mine were the II's from the 70's. I have no idea if the quality improved or we down with them over time. Are they considered collectible at any level?

Thanks!

I have a pair of Genesis 10's from that period and am very impressed with them. I also own a pair of early Genesis I's and there was little difference between them. I think you made did well there. Hope to see some pics from you soon.

or you can just go to a shoe repair place

Just looking at the pictures of the 210, it looks like the good stuff. That is the good old EPI/Genesis 8" woofer with a 10" passive. I have a pair of 2+ and love them. The bass is outstanding. Assuming the one tweeter has been upgraded with the aluminum dome, you have some good stuff there. I would think you would be better off with matching tweeters, but give them a listen and see what you think.

Recapping my 2+ made a huge difference. I can never recall for sure, but I believe I used Solen caps in them. I would think Dayton caps would work just as well if not better.

Genesis speakers are somewhat collectible, I suppose. They never seem to draw the big bucks at auction, but I can't imagine why. I see much worse sounding speakers sell for much more. To be honest, my 2+ don't leave much to be desired. In fact, if I couldn't run a sub, they would be probably be the speakers I would chose. The bass performance is pretty remarkable!

Take care,

Ed

I have the II's and they have a masonite tweeter...

I have the 410's but they have that black plastic plate ....I don't have any of the aluminum.

I love the Genesis though
