Genuine Thorens TD-160 MKII belt?

I haven't bought from that seller though I did just buy 2 belts from the current official Thorens distributor locally. I will be buying more as I've already used them. I do a lot of repairs and I can get a good price.

However those tables are still here, one home and one at the shop. They definitely have the Thorens name on them and work better than the generic ones I tested on both a 150 and a 160.

I'll measure one and see what I get.

Thanks guys, I guess for now I'm on hold... It did concern me since I received no reply to my direct question to him about being a genuine Thorens belt--hence the post here.

I buy my belts from the guy in Germany. Not sure if there originals or not (I have my doubts) but there the best I have found.

I bought mine from the vinyl nirvana store at that auction site. Fixed the problem I was having. They have the Thorens belt drive logo.

OK guys, think I have found the solution. AudioAdvisors in W. Palm Beach, FL., a Thorens Distributor. Decent prices and shipping, a real
person answers the phone and very helpful/friendly. Belts are new manufactures from Thorens and are not old stock. Now at least I know what I'm getting.

Good afternoon Byron,

Very nice speaking with you today sir. The belt, which Thorens has in stock, for your TD-160 MKII we discussed today is $30.00. I'm working directly with Thorens to drop ship the belt to your house. First, I will need your address though, so that they can give us an accurate price for shipping. I estimate around $2.50 via USPS First Class mail.

So, the Canadian Thorens distributor is Rutherford Audio and a direct link to the "standard" Thorens belt is http://www.rutherfordaudio.com/shop/cad/components/accessories/thorens-standard-belt.html?___SID=U

The price of $35 Canadian is fair at least and includes shipping as far as I can tell. I'm about to order some extras, and I'm not affiliated with them.

These are labelled Thorens on the rubber and I measured one of them that I bought a week ago. It's 4mm wide (critical that it not be wider or it rubs the speed change guide), I would say .8mm thick (perhaps a touch less but that will pull through the jaws of my digital caliper without catching), and 258 to 260 long pinched flat and pulled taut but just shy of stretching. As tnsilver says above it's hard to be precise about this. So it is 516 to 520 "long".

OK, ordered my belt today. Interesting, during our conversation he mentioned they have sold over 600 Thorens belts this year to date compared to just under 200 all last year. I would imagine this speaks somewhat to the resurgence in vinyl we are seeing...or not, anyway still an interesting fact/comparison.

I know Qaudio has the right belt. The right belt allows the non-speed adjustable tables, the 160s to be dead on balls accurate for speed. Anything else gives a slightly off speed. Easily seen with a strobe.

The 125 with speed adjustments isn't as critical but the Mk II clutched motor pulley wants something it was designed to work with and that is a properly functioning electronic speed control board. I used tnsilver's thread to completely rebuild and update (from 14-pin to 8-pin chips, removing a resistor and cap for each of those two chips) to the new style boards a friends 125 II that was having 'issues'. Those issues are gone now and adjusting the table to have proper speed at the center of the range for each speed makes a difference. He has a proper belt on it, too.

I would believe that Dave at vinylnirvana would have the right belt, too. His rebuilt tables are very nicely done and sell for fair prices for all the work done and the overall quality of the table. Can't be selling em like that if the speed is wrong and it will be on the 160s if the proper belt is not used.
