Getting Polk fever

I'm not understanding this talk of "too bright". Isn't that like saying; too good?, too much shrimp on my plate? hey, isn't it better to have too much of a good thing? Maybe you can use your amp's tone controls to turn down the treble. You can't add more though if it's not there. I love clear and bright sounding amps and speakers... Am i not getting something here?

Some folks just don't like bright! But that's ok for them! I like AT carts but some don't cuz they are too bright! It only depends on what you like so be careful with some opinions...

In my opinion, Polk SDAs are the most undervalued speakers in today's used market. Huge sound quality for the money. If you already have 200+ wpc, that is.

All of the Monitor or SDA lines are high quality speakers ... I have lightly modded SDA 3.1TL, stock Monitor 10a, and heavily modded Monitor 7v2 and love them all. My 3.1TLs are the best all around speakers I've ever owned - driven currently with a NAD C370.

SDA SRS 1.2TLs are hard to beat for the "oh crap" factor, but you need a large room to enjoy them. I'm stuck in a cupboard with mine at the moment.

SRS II's and 2.3TLs are often said to be the best Polk speakers just from a clean sound perspective.

Late SDA 1s and 2s are good all-around midsize speakers. Cheap, too. SDA CRS is the bookshelf version.

For non SDAs, Monitor 10, RTA-11T (like a vertical, bigger M10,) and RTA-15TL (listed as having as good a frequency range as the 1.2TL) are all excellent speakers. Also very underrated. You can get 11T's for $150-250 for what was a $1K pair of speakers originally.

^^^THIS! :D

I'd add the 3.1's to that list as well. But the "lower" model SDA's like the 1C, 2A/B etc are still fantastic speakers as well.

I have a set of SDA2b's and RTA 12c both in great shape. To my ears they sound great with all the varied styles of music I enjoy. I know there are newer and probably "better" speakers out there. I have never been the type to obsess over thinking that I might be missing something and need to constantly chase something that I can't even define. These have just always supplied what I needed, solid good sound that just lets me enjoy the music.

My Polk SRS SDA 2.3 speakers are wonderful. I've had them since early 1990. I originally got a pair of SDA 1C's which were very nice. The store I got them from had an upgrade option and I rather quickly returned the 1C's and got a full refund to put toward the 2.3's. I've not had to do a thing to them in 25 years. Although, perhaps I could recap the crossovers someday. They sure are heavy suckers!
