I was over at a good friend's house yesterday, when he said he had something for me. He gave me a Technics SL-1700. He said he never uses it anymore, since he got a VPI Prime Signature table. Also, it has a Pickering XUV 4500-Q quad cartridge on it. I have zero quad records, so I will need to mount another cart. It was a good day.

I thought I did good scoring 50% off on candy yesterday. You win.

I picked up my 1700 last summer and love it. Congrats.

I believe that cartridge will be just fine for stereo records so get to spinning.

The Pickering XUV 4500-Q is just fine for Stereo LP discs. Many of these cartridges were equally used for Stereo then. The one thing I would do if this were mine, would be to buy the SL-1200 headshell as an upgrade, remount and align the Pickering XUV in that, rebalance if necessary, and do whatever maintenance necessary, and play and enjoy the heck out of this classic. A nice gift, I'd be proud to own this one myself.
