Gifted An AU-919

Long story short, my parents use to live in Japan in the late 70s and recently gave me their AU-919 that they have been lugging around forever.

Ive taken this opportunity to start getting my feet wet in the world of hifi. I would appreciate some guidance on a few things.

Right now i just have a cheap dual 1257 turntable (and I dont remember the cartridge/stylus on it) hooked up to some mediocre external phono preamp which is then connected to a Onkyo sr674 receiver which is finally outputted to my speakers ( klipsch synergy f1).

Question 1:
Any recommendations of speakers for this amplifier? Im open to floor standing or bookshelf / vintage or new speakers.
Id like to keep the setup 2.1 this wont be for home theatre (I currently have a Dayton sub-120 150W)
For what its worth, Id like a more neutral sound.

Question 2:
I also listen to some music digitally(spotify/ps4/etc) does it make any sense to send the music to my onkyo receiver then send it to the sansui then speakers, or just send the music to my receiver > speakers.

If it was bought in Japan, be sure to check and see if it is a Japan domestic model or an export model. The Japan domestic models are designed to operate on 100V and will be overloaded if you operate it on the US standard 115v. Export models will have a voltage selector that can be set to 115v. The ID plate on the back will have this information. If it is a Japan domestic model you will need a step down transformer to use it safely.

There are very few amps that have as neutral a sound as the AU-919. It's one of Sansui's best. It has a very good phono amp. You can connect your turntable directly to it. You can play your digital media through the aux input but you will need a cord that one end connects to your digital source and the other end with rca plug to go to the aux input.

Send the Onkyo to Tuner Only duty or other room duty if not being used for its video. To do the tuner thing, run an Onkyo video output (red and white) to the AU Tuner input. Set the oink aside and tune in a station speakers off and that will be the tuner for the system.

For the 2.1 system run the preamp output of the 919 to the sub low level input and the low level output to the power amp input on the 919, add a pair of ADS 710 speakers and BAM!!! Plug the turntable into the AU skip the phono unit. Your digital music could plug into an AUX input on the 919.

the preferred method is to look into getting a DAC. for playing music from a computer to DAC to Sansui. The dac on the Onykyo is sub-par to what you can get with a good DAC separate. but should be good for now while you work on other places in your system. The sansui does not have a built in dac.

As for speakers: what kind of music do you like, and at what volume? Do you tend to sit and listen in a sweet spot or move around doing things? Oh wait you have Klipsch Synergy....hmm. I have not heard those Klipsches, you might like some others that are a little higher in the food chain. kg 4.2 or 5.5 for example. The main thing with speakers is to listen to them. Whereabouts are you located?

I apologize, price point and type of music should have been given. I like rock, and im trying to keep the pair around $500-700. The synergy f1 is definitely a budget speaker -- I got it for ~$150 like 8 years ago. It got the job done but its time to upgrade. Im in Texas, any suggestions on places I could go to besides bestbuy/frys to listen.
