Glass frontal Mcintosh C29

I hardly understand your message, but perhaps you should turn your attention to the McIntosh forum and using the "Search" tool over there. Or starting an own thread on your topic.

Unfortunately, not. This seems to be commonplace. The replacement glass fronts for vintage McIntosh seem to be hit-or-miss. Some complain that their illumination is uneven or dimmer than before. And, only a few years ago, a lot of people (including AC) were advocating for LED replacement lighting for most earlier incandescent Mac.

Maybe someone will weigh in with some useful suggestions. Good luck. Mac aesthetics are gorgeous when the lighting is right.

I too had to replace the glass on my C-29 at one time and the new glass is different for sure. Make sure you use a brighter lamp when replacing the glass. I also had to use some black Pactra paint to touch up a few places that leaked light.

The new coated glass is better quality than the old one and will not bubble over time. But consistently brighter lighting is recommended for the best aesthetic. Fury161's C26 is a fine example.

The newer glass is likely to last longer, that’s the good part. The newer glass also has less open area in the lettering as it is created by a raster-scan type of lettering, so less light gets through.

If you find NOS glass that has the black back, it is the older style, the newer style has a white painted back. There was also an aftermarket seller that was making faceplates for a while (not licensed by McIntosh) and it was pretty good, so if you’re not buying from Audio Classics or McIntosh Parts it could be a knock-off.

The C29 glass I recently purchased from McIntosh looked great and didn't have any illumination issues--maybe I got lucky?

I have purchased glass in the past where the illumination was very dim, even with new bulbs, so I do understand.

It is entirely possible that there are differences between them, and even that there are some glass faceplates available from the original process, and even that McIntosh has continued to improve their process, and your C29 glass has more open area in the lettering.

I am curious what is different, would love to see it up-close and illuminated as well as the back-side. McIntosh of course isn’t able to fulfill all of our wishes out here but they do a pretty good job in my experience, and this makes me curious what is different / if they continued to improve this.

If it was a used part, it's probably dirty. You can try some contact cleaner and F100 fader lube on it to see if that clears it up. YOu can find a how-to here. It just seems to be a systematic issue with old Mac pots. Unfortunately, even new Mac parts can be dicey sometimes. I ordered a new replacement from them a couple years ago that was worse than the orignal 50 year old one.
