Gluing Glass

Hello

I was cleaning the faceplate glass of a pioneer 838. The glass came undone:sigh: What type of glue do you recommend for a good tight seal on the face plate and what kind of stuff do you use to clean the old stuff off.

Thanks

Try scraping off the old glue around the edges with a razor. The best glue for glass I can think of comes in those repair kits for your car's rearview mirror. Check autozone or oreilly's for that.

Those binary glues are permanent. If you think you may want to remove the glass sometime in the future, try clear RTV.

You might try Elmer's Glass Glue.

Just sayin'.

Very strong stuff without being nasty. Water based, so you can clean up excess.

When I replaced the glass on my TX-9800 I asked the guy at the glass shop for something since I was already there. He showed me a tube of "Lexel" It was only $4, and had a easy to apply tip. The glass was only $1.58, and cut to perfection.

Having replaced the glass in many Pioneer units, I'll note here, for your consideration, that it is very difficult to use any sort of viscous compound such as RTV or glues. Even when using what appears to be the smallest amount, excess oozes out the front and makes your repair look like it was done in a Kindergarten crafts class. I started using the Terrifically Tacky Tape years ago, and I'd not consider using anything else again...it works beautifully. The hardest part is cleaning off the old tape, which has been in place for 30+ years and is quite reluctant to be removed.

I've used silicone n the past, a thin bead worked perfectly, no issues. That tape looks interesting though. I have never used anything like that.

Thanks Much Echo, Ordered the tape. Yep. Worked on the old tape stuff with a razor for a while last night. A chore...
