Going green.....

As I've said before, there's just something wrong about Genesis speakers with grey foam. Here's the set of 1's I just picked up.....

Along with the rotted green OEM foam...

A comparison of the new "close enough" foam

And the finished product....:thmbsp:

the Secret Process makes the foams a bit stiff, so much so that I worked the foam with my fingers for awhile before I put them on, but the sound is fine now, and the bass should continue to improve as they loosen up with some playing time.....:music:...:D

The nice thing is that the colorant is rubber based, so there shouldn't be any issues with cracking or loss of color...:thmbsp:

I do need to get the screws blackened on the tweeters to match the other pair of 1's and the 2's I have....

Some type of paint? I still have a pair of Genesis 1s I got new in the late 70s that need new foam and was just about to go gray, but now you got me thinking:D How about a hint?

There's already a hint in the OP....

Homer has the "rights" to the process, even though it was my idea. You might PM him. (HomerJSimpson)

If he has given up making them for others, he may release the "intellectual property"....:D

I've used a spray-on rubberized crack sealer called "no more cracks" to recondition fabric surrounds on vintage AR speakers. This looks like similar stuff.

Nice pics,

I just PM'd Homer J about the Genesis I's that I have that need a refoam. I noticed on your pair the grills are black. Is that the original grills? The grills on mine are a somwhat tweedy cream color.

My grills are brown cloth, sorry no pic's. I guess they came in other colors. cream, brown, Black?

I just did my Genesis 1, no green, but gray, I ordered up 2 cap's from Partsexpress "2 027-932 Jantzen 10uF 400V Crosscap Capacitor" I hope this is a good cap for my speakers. in there now are 10uF 50v 30 years old.

I am just waiting for my "Greens" to show up in the mail from Homer J and I can join the list of Genesis I rehabbers club.....

I bought them new in "78" damm I'm old. I tried to match the color with foam paint but just couldn't get it right so I went gray. they sound just like I remember, great. I put them away when the foam got wasted and now I'm a refoaming junky....more...i need more speakers to refoam!!!

kbott's solution looks pretty good to, and I'm betting it's less work than mine...

This past weekend I picked up a pair of AR 2ax and a pair of Genesis II s. Both pair for $40. I plan on doing a rehab on the Genesis first, refoam x-over rebuild. Would appreciate any info in this reguard.
Thanks Capt Ron
