Goldmund sri2 vs Forte Audio 40 preamp + 5 amp

Hi to everyone! I have been reading this forum quite some time and decided to register finally and ask some questions :D

I have a chance of getting a Goldmund Sri2 integrated amp or a Forte Audio model 40 preamp with a model 5 amp and have 2 days to decide. Both options seem to be in a very nice condition, however there is a price difference of about $650 between them. Goldmund is more expensive at around $1700 and Forte Audio combo at around $1050. Both are within my budget, however, since they are used, a home-demo is out of question and I won't be able to properly compare them using the same equipment. By the way, as far as I know, they are not serviced so far and most probably, given their age, Forte Audio setup might need some cap change...

I will probably be using them with a Benchmark Dac1 pre and Elac FS 187 speakers. I mostly listen to jazz, classic rock, classical music and some blues as well. After this brief introduction :D, here are my questions:

If there is anyone, who was able to compare Goldmund and Forte Audio, I would appreciate if they can share their opinion on this. Which option is smarter buy? Which option would sound better? Basically, which option would you choose? Any information you could provide is greatly appreciated.

I have owned the Forte amp and preamp you have mentioned. They were great values back in the day. I have heard of Goldmund, suppose to be good stuff although I have not heard their equipment before. If it were me I would go with the Goldmund just on reputation alone, plus it is newer so I see that as a plus to.....

Thank you AudioSoul for your reply. Although more expensive, I am currently more inclined to Goldmund due to the very same reasons you mentioned. Remote control, though very basic, is also a plus with Goldmund. However, there is the issue of $650 of a price difference, which I will gladly pay if Goldmund is sonically better as well. But I cannot be sure and I never will due to the reasons I explained in the first post. Anyways, if there won't be any more feedback for the next couple of days, I will probably go with Goldmund. Let's wait and see. :scratch2:

Why? I am just wondering which one sounds better. Simple as that. If Goldmund sounds better, I will go with that and I won't care if it is more expensive. I explained that before. If they are similar, I rather save $650...

I wonder how you could decide if something belongs here or not. Did I ask for ways to invest my money? :thumbsdn:

I am sorry, somehow I did not realize that there is a section Dollars and Sense in the forum :stupid: Silly me.... :stupid:

However, my comment still holds, I am just wondering which one would sound better, I will gladly pay more for the better option, even the sonic differences are not that much. I need to see some comparison, if there is any of course, between them. I will also be happy with user comments on either system as well, just something to go on before tomorrow.
